R.S. Grey knows exactly how to pull you in and keep you glued right where she wants you. With its love/hate plot and witty banter, Arrogant Devil is the sort of book that you can’t help but not be able to put down.

Jack McNight hides behind his broody, moody, arrogant personality to keep others at bay. Taking on the family business at such a young age from losing both his parents, he’s become addicted to Blue Stone Ranch which doesn’t leave much room for anything or anyone else. Though behind all that tough, gravely mask hides a man who grieves the loss of his parents and the fear of truly loving anyone else. Though I loved Jack, I really loved, loved Meredith! She’s honestly one of my most favorite heroines to date. I really enjoyed how complex her character was with her spunky personality mixed with such a deep vulnerability. It made it really easy for me to see through her eyes and able to relate to her that much more.

Meredith’s relationship with Edith (Jack’s grandmother) was another highlight for me. Their sweet bond brought quite a bit of smiles out of me and it made me miss my own grandmother. I love how full of life Edith was and in some way became Meredith’s inspiration to move forward with her life. Coming from a loveless and verbally abusive relationship, Meredith lost her mojo and I thought Edith brought out so much of Meredith’s strengths to light which helped her build her confidence.

The slow burn between Meredith and Jack was exciting. Finding one another during such an unexpected time, both were caught off guard that they didn’t know how to navigate around their newfound feelings. So, I loved seeing how their relationship progressed from enemies to friends and finally to lovers. I enjoyed this book very much and as with all of this author’s work, I found myself giggling through pages while falling in love at the same time.

If you’re in the mood for something light and quick but ridiculously sexy, then One Wild Night is exactly what you need in your life. The first of a duet and the first ever collaboration between two amazing writers, this book will keep you entertained from the very first page to its last. With its alternating POVs, I loved how seamless the feel and the sound of it was. Nothing felt awkward or out of place. A.L. Jackson’s passionate and poetic writing style mixed in with Rebecca Shea’s sexy and engaging  style, I thought that they totally nailed it! Paxton and Kaylee’s whirlwind romance is definitely Hollywood material.

 The moment that Kaylee steps out of a rented limousine, onto the red carpet, and right into the arms of Paxton Myles, both their worlds are suddenly turned upside down. A love at first sight meeting and an all too swoon worthy wooing that follows will have you falling in love with them too. I guarantee lots of thigh clenching moments because Paxton Myles is one heck of a sexy bastard. A dirty talker who likes to take full control in the bedroom—I mean, c’mon!!! Don’t get me wrong, Kaylee can hold her own too—sweet and innocent yet a total vixen in the bedroom. Their chemistry and their hunger for one another is hot, hot, hot!!!

Profound. That’s the exact word I’d use to describe A.L. Jackson’s latest release, Follow Me Back. This is the second installment to her standalone series, Fight for Me and its story line is the very definition of fighting for someone. I love that Ms. Jackson brought into light not only love in the romantic sense but also an unconditional love between a mother and her child. I’m not going to lie, I found myself ugly crying big crocodile tears during certain moments. The tears didn’t come from sadness but instead came from deep within. I felt like if my heart could speak it would say exactly what was written in this book. I wish.. Oh, how I wish I could express the way it affected me so much better than I’m trying to now. But I think the best way that you can understand and feel what I did is to pick up this book yourself. You will be immersed in it, no doubt.

 Harley Hope Masterson is one hell of a woman. She is insanely brave and she is so wonderfully loving. After having been burned by her ex-husband, Hope has distanced herself from any chance at falling in love. Raising her eight year old son, Evan who is the very center of her universe is her only concern. The power behind Hope’s love for her beautiful son, Evan and Evan’s sweet, sweet love for his mom shook me to the core. During such a sensitive time in my life, their relationship just meant the world to me. It spoke of everything I would be willing to do for my own son and all of that emotion compounded. It cursed through me, hitting me right smack to the gut and straight through my heart. If there was ever a moment where I had to vote for a “best mom in the fictional world” award, it would go to Hope… Hands down.  Well, lo and behold… Dr. Kale Bryant. No A.L. Jackson fictional book boyfriend has given me shameless tingles since Jared flippin’ Holt from her Come to Me series. Let me tell you, what started out as tingles quickly escalated to out of control tremors. This guy is pure, PURE unadulterated sex on a stick. I loved how confident he was about himself—there’s a fine line between cocky arrogance and sexy confidence and this guy was ALL sexy confidence to the tee. However, behind his easy demeanor lay a shattered heart. Having lost someone so tragically and suddenly, Kale has shut himself out for a chance at love too. It isn’t until a gorgeous red head comes into his life that his broken heart begins to glue itself back together. The instant and easy chemistry between them sent a delicious thrill to my lady bits. These two together, burned through the pages. Trust me when I say that you’ll be fanning yourself silly.

 Follow Me Back affected me in such a profound way. A. L. Jackson is known to deliver emotional love stories and I’m an avid fan who is very familiar with the sorts of emotions she’s able to incite out of her readers but quite frankly, I have to admit that I was taken so completely off guard by how much this jarred me. I loved, LOVED this book so, so much. This was my first 2018 read and also became my very favorite A.L. Jackson book to date. I felt this book from my head to my toes. A five star + read that has my bookshelf worthy stamp of approval. Bravo to you Ms. Jackson for going into this new year already setting hearts ablaze.

A feel good romance, The Beau & The Belle was exactly what I was craving to start this year off. R.S. Grey is THE BEST at such a story line. Inviting without being forceful, she coerces the best kind of laughter that bubbles from deep within right out for the world to hear—snorts included. I loved that the book was broken up in two parts—the past and the present. It gave tangible proof to what the characters were feeling the moment they reunite ten years later and their feelings? Well, they somehow became my feelings too.

The characters, both the primary protagonists and the secondary roles were extraordinary. I enjoyed every morsel of what they added into the mix. However, I have to give most of this love to Lauren LeBlanc. You guys, she is ALL OF US! At one point in our lives, whether it be our “no longer a girl, not yet a woman”, insecure, hormone filled seventeen year old selves’ or the more polished, career oriented, more secure selves’ now. SHE IS US! Every. Single. One. Of. Us. And OMG, OMG how I ADORED her. Like, totally, majorly adored her. Born with a surname that is respected and adored in New Orleans, Lauren attended a prestigious all girls’ school and of course participated in long standing traditions like a cotillion. Even though she comes from “old money,” she is still your loveable, awkward, and funny as hell girl. Something that she really never out grows. Beau Fortier however, is the “who” she never quite out grew as well.

With something to prove, Beau is determined, smart and polished. But behind all of that, he’s as warm and as sweet, and utterly delicious as what I’d imagine beignets from Café du Monde would be. You see, Beau’s family were once part of the prestige of New Orleans too but with a reckless great-great (not sure how many greats) grandfather, their branch fell off that money tree. What he sets out to do is to make the Fortier name mean something again and getting tangled up with his landlords’ seventeen year old daughter wouldn’t make the best sense. So while an inexplicable connection is there, Beau pushes Lauren’s advances away. In turn breaking her heart. A heart that has been trained with ten years’ worth of pep talks to harden around Beau. But hey, as Selena Gomez said—the heart wants what it wants. And Lauren LeBlanc’s heart only truly beats when it comes to Beau Fortier.

The Beau & The Belle needs to be picked up by Hollywood because ya’ll…. This was pure entertainment. 100% gold with clusters of diamonds all around it. With its delightful characters and their witty banter, you will find yourself much like I did—holding on to your bellies, howling with laughter. I’m addicted to R.S. Grey’s writing. She is sugar that I can’t ever quit. Sorry Keto, sorry no sugar diets—we will never be. I wholeheartedly and thoroughly enjoyed every moment with Lauren and Beau and with Ms. Grey’s writing. This will leave you with a softened heart and an even bigger smile when it is all said and done. Another five star read to add to my list which most definitely has my bookshelf-worthy stamp of approval.

K. Bromberg’s Cuffed is a great read which took me on an unexpected emotional roller coaster. It’s a wonderful love story of two childhood best friends reunited after being separated due to tragic reasons. I was sucked right into Grant Malone’s charm and protective nature and I was utterly in awe of Emerson’s strength and resiliency.

 I am going to be honest, based solely on the book cover, I never thought that the plot line it contained was what it would be. I expected a super sexy, light hearted read only to be blasted with the very opposite. Don’t get me wrong, there were lots of sexy with Grant and Emmy but the best parts about this entire book was the emotional journey that Ms. Bromberg set for her readers to take. I mean, I should have known that there would be more than what meets the eye. That’s what I love most about her writing—the substance that she intertwines with all the swoon and steam that we all expect and love about reading contemporary romances. Cuffed addresses such a heavy topic, a trigger for some, and definitely something that all of us would move mountains to eradicate. No one should have to endure what Emmy had to. I cried and I heaved and I got mad. There were a myriad of emotions that came along as the pages began to wane. Again, such a surprising twist to what I had thought coming into this. I loved that!

With its outstanding characters and profound story line, Cuffed will definitely have you at the edge of your seat. A must read that is anything like what you’d believe based solely by judging it by its cover.

Present day…

I took in the mess of the large, circular room we were in and at first saw nothing but the mess—decaying furniture, a soot-covered stone fireplace, a kitchen that might have been put in in the forties but had not only not been touched the last nine years, it perhaps had not been touched the last nineteen (or more).

Then I saw more.

The extraordinarily carved railing to the sweeping wood staircase that ran the curved side of the house. The red brick walls. The plank wood floors.

“Once upon a time, long ago,” the realtor was suddenly talking wistfully, “someone loved this place. Put that love into building it. Put that love into keeping it. Nine years and more when no one really gave a whit, and still you can see it once had a lot of love.”

Oh yes.

You could see that.

“It’s got a basement, more like a big crawl space,” the agent declared, surprising me with his quick change in tone back to businesslike and informative. “The furnace is down there. You can get down there through a door in the floor. The furnace was put in a while back, and full disclosure, though an inspection will catch it, it probably needs to be replaced.”

Through his words I stared at the fireplace, which scoured would be magnificent, and I noticed it didn’t have a chimney as such, but the smoke probably went out a vent in the wall.

“This floor has a powder room under the stairs,” the realtor kept on. “You can look at it if you want, but if you wanna save yourself that, I’ll just tell you straight, it needs to be gutted.”

I decided to take his word for it and told him that.

He looked relieved when I did before he stated, “Place has a garage, two car. Not in good condition, but think you saw that. Still, it’s close to the house and there’s a covered walkway to that door over there.” He pointed at a door that was across from the door we’d walked in. “Means you might feel a chill but you won’t get wet, unless it’s raining sideways, which happens.”

With a breeze that plastered my jacket to me on a sunny, early spring day, I did not doubt that.

“Garage has a loft space above it, which could be renovated as a studio rental if you’ve a mind to do that sort of thing. As for the property itself, it also has a building where the generators are stowed,” the realtor carried on. “Hook up for a washer and dryer and good space in there. Lots of it for storage. Which is good because there’s not a lot of storage in here for tools and Christmas decorations and whatnot.”

I glanced around seeing he was right. There wasn’t even enough cabinetry to house the things a decent cook would need in her kitchen. Though there was room for them. In fact, if you fought back the gloom, there was quite a bit of room.

“And there’s a place outside, could call it a studio, could call it a mother-in-law house,” he shared. “Whatever, it’s got goodly space, two bedrooms, big kitchen. Could be renovated to be a guest house. Or like I said, a studio if you’re artsy. Or you could rent it out like a B and B. I’ll show you all of that after we have a look at the lighthouse.”

“Thanks,” I replied.

“Now, since I mentioned full disclosure, you have to know it all,” the realtor continued.

Slowly, my eyes went to him.

When they did, he launched in. “Like I said, it’s automated. And like I said, you won’t really have to concern yourself with the functionality of that unless the electricity goes out, but then the generators automatically kick in. There are two. But you’ll need to keep fuel on hand to keep them going in case a blackout lasts awhile. And just to say, this is coastal Maine. We get weather. Blackouts can last awhile.”

When I nodded to share I took that in, he kept going.

“And if you’re, say, away on vacation, you need to make sure someone is playing backup in such a case.”

“Okay,” I replied when he stopped talking, thinking this probably wasn’t a good thing since I knew no one in Maine (or not anyone who wanted to know me) and thus couldn’t call on anyone to do something like that.

I also didn’t hold high hopes I’d make friends and win people. I hadn’t had a lot of success in that in my life.

And last, although Patrick believed it completely, I held no hope that the reason I was out there was going to come to fruition.

That being me having a happy ending.

That being what Patrick thought would be my happy ending.

Which might mean I’d have someone, a certain someone, or actually two (at least), even though I knew I never would.
