BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: Midnight Valentine by J.T. Geissinger

About MIDNIGHT VALENTINE

True love never dies.

Megan and Cassidy were childhood sweethearts who thought they would be together forever. Fate had other plans. Soon after they were married, Cass’s life was tragically cut short. Still grieving her soul mate five years later, Megan moves to the small town of Seaside, Oregon, hoping to rebuild her life.

Her first night there, she meets the town recluse, Theo. Withdrawn, guarded, and mysteriously silent since a terrible accident left him scarred, Theo takes an instant and inexplicable dislike to Megan. But as their paths cross again and again, Megan becomes convinced there’s more to Theo than meets the eye.

When she discovers the reason for his silence, his nightmares, and especially his pointed dislike, Megan becomes convinced of something far more astonishing.

Is a second chance at a once-in-a-lifetime love possible, or is a broken heart the cruelest kind of liar?

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

You know you’ve read one heck of a book when you can’t stop thinking about it long after you’ve turned the last page. J.T. Geissinger is a new author for me and her newest release, Midnight Valentine just absolutely blew me away. Now I can’t wait to search for her other works because if they are anything like this one, then you’ll find me binge reading her stories all day long. This story continues to linger in my mind and my heart. Everything… I mean every single thing about this book was magnificent. It’s been a LONG time since a book has left me feeling this way. Midnight Valentine is wonderfully unique and it aroused feelings that I haven’t really ever felt before. It’s like taking your first yoga class and feeling soreness in muscles you never knew you had before the very next day.

It really is best to go into this book blind. I know that sounds cliché but this is one of those story lines that cannot be spoiled—not even a tiny bit. The blurb should be enough to lure you in and trust me when I say that once you’re into those pages you will never want to leave. As I’d mentioned before, J.T. Geissinger is a brand new author for me so I feel this sense of unbelievable gratification that I decided to give Midnight Valentine a go. I fell in love with her writing. It’s inviting and exceptionally captivating. The dialogue between the characters are both smart and witty. I am obsessed. Her words are prolific and it seriously made me want to do some soul searching. You become invested in the characters and hope for nothing less than a happy ending. Theo and Megan—uggghhh these two owned me! The character development, one of the very best I’ve ever read. You’re all in with them, no whats or ifs or buts about it. They’re relatable, lovable, and stammeringly impossible to forget.

Midnight Valentine is currently standing strong on my BEST reads of the year and one that’s a definite, definite top ever read. With its mysterious plot line, addictive prose, and memorable characters, this book  is one that will leave a lasting impression. It has my book shelf worthy stamp of approval and one that I know I’ll find myself aching to re-read. If you read one part of this review it’s this—THIS IS A MUST READ, ONE THAT CANNOT BE MISSED!!!

Melanie’s 5+Star Review:

Profound. That’s the exact word I’d use to describe A.L. Jackson’s latest release, Follow Me Back. This is the second installment to her standalone series, Fight for Me and its story line is the very definition of fighting for someone. I love that Ms. Jackson brought into light not only love in the romantic sense but also an unconditional love between a mother and her child. I’m not going to lie, I found myself ugly crying big crocodile tears during certain moments. The tears didn’t come from sadness but instead came from deep within. I felt like if my heart could speak it would say exactly what was written in this book. I wish.. Oh, how I wish I could express the way it affected me so much better than I’m trying to now. But I think the best way that you can understand and feel what I did is to pick up this book yourself. You will be immersed in it, no doubt.

Harley Hope Masterson is one hell of a woman. She is insanely brave and she is so wonderfully loving. After having been burned by her ex-husband, Hope has distanced herself from any chance at falling in love. Raising her eight year old son, Evan who is the very center of her universe is her only concern. The power behind Hope’s love for her beautiful son, Evan and Evan’s sweet, sweet love for his mom shook me to the core. During such a sensitive time in my life, their relationship just meant the world to me. It spoke of everything I would be willing to do for my own son and all of that emotion compounded. It cursed through me, hitting me right smack to the gut and straight through my heart. If there was ever a moment where I had to vote for a “best mom in the fictional world” award, it would go to Hope… Hands down. So being the best mom in the world means that she deserves the best kind of love too right??

Well, lo and behold… Dr. Kale Bryant. No A.L. Jackson fictional book boyfriend has given me shameless tingles since Jared flippin’ Holt from her Come to Me series. Let me tell you, what started out as tingles quickly escalated to out of control tremors. This guy is pure, PURE unadulterated sex on a stick. I loved how confident he was about himself—there’s a fine line between cocky arrogance and sexy confidence and this guy was ALL sexy confidence to the tee. However, behind his easy demeanor lay a shattered heart. Having lost someone so tragically and suddenly, Kale has shut himself out for a chance at love too. It isn’t until a gorgeous red head comes into his life that his broken heart begins to glue itself back together. The instant and easy chemistry between them sent a delicious thrill to my lady bits. These two together, burned through the pages. Trust me when I say that you’ll be fanning yourself silly.

Follow Me Back affected me in such a profound way. A. L. Jackson is known to deliver emotional love stories and I’m an avid fan who is very familiar with the sorts of emotions she’s able to incite out of her readers but quite frankly, I have to admit that I was taken so completely off guard by how much this jarred me. I loved, LOVED this book so, so much. This was my first 2018 read and also became my very favorite A.L. Jackson book to date. I felt this book from my head to my toes. A five star + read that has my bookshelf worthy stamp of approval. Bravo to you Ms. Jackson for going into this new year already setting hearts ablaze.

BOOK REVIEW: The Fortunate Ones by R.S. Grey

image1

At Twin Oaks Country Club, there are the fortunate ones, and then there are the rest of us: the waiters, the caddies, the valets, and in my case, the cabana girls. Most days, I’m poolside in a pleated skirt, dishing out margaritas to tycoons and titans. It’s not exactly my dream job, but it does come with one perk…

James Ashwood.

He’s my silver lining in a custom black suit.

Besides being a legacy member at the club, he’s a tech mogul and Austin’s most eligible bachelor. Oh, and those dimples? Yeah, they make my stomach dip too.

On good days, I catch his sleek Porsche winding down the tree-lined drive. On better days, I steal a glimpse of his handsome profile as we pass in the hall. And on the absolute best day, I find him alone at the bar, looking for company.

“Come have a seat.”

Those four little words set me down a path I never could have imagined. Private planes, penthouse suites, and temptations around every corner make it impossible to keep my distance. His world feels decadent and wild—but overindulgence comes with a cost. Every kiss comes with strings. Every erotic encounter is a promise I’m not ready to keep.

When I pump the brakes, he hits the gas. James doesn’t want to go slow—he wants a commitment.

And the thing about the fortunate ones?
They’re used to getting what they want.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

With dreamy eyes and a big smile on my face, I shut off my Kindle and ended the love affair with my TOP 2017 read. I’ve read many of R.S. Grey’s books, all of which I’ve enjoyed and most of which I’ve loved but her most recent release, The Fortunate Ones won me over times a million. A feel good romance with enough angst to make a literary masochist’s mouth water. I was unable to put my e-reader down for more than a few minutes at a time—those minutes of course ones that called for emergency family needs. And during those few times, I could almost hear James and Brooke calling a teasing, “Yoo-hoo, over here!” The author’s writing is deftly inviting and her characters so utterly alluring. I couldn’t get enough of Ms. Grey’s words which left me reading through the night and into the early hours of the morning. A full 8 hours night’s rest and the following day’s work productivity be damned.

In The Fortunate Ones, we get a taste of how the rich live. Set mostly inside the lavish premises of Twin Oaks Country Club in Austin, Texas you quickly hone on to the fact that the author may just have some experience in a place like this. I loved the way she described not only the extravagant amenities and services such a place would offer but also love that she goes into great detail about the over-the-top shenanigans its affluent members are up to. The author delivers it in such a witty, humorous way which had me giggling in the dark of my bedroom with a snoring husband next to me. I’m legit thankful for our Tempurpedic having enough sense to cushion the shaking from those incessant giggles.

Though Brooke, the female lead in this story was born rich and comes from old money, she goes against the grain. Both her and her sister Ellie take up jobs at Twin Oaks instead of depending on their father’s money or finding an equally rich husband to depend on. I loved, loved this about her. She’s well educated, determined, and confident. Brooke would make Beyoncé proud about the whole independent woman thing, but there’s also a softness that makes up so much of who she is. It’s when the infamous James Ashwood comes into her life that this vulnerability really comes into focus. But before we get into that, let’s get into James flippin’ Ashwood—oh yes, PLEASE! Oh, how I’d love to get into James Ashwood, over and over and over again. Hello, heart shaped eyes emoji and oh, there goes those ovaries bursting like they’re mass weapons of destruction. This guy. THIS GUY! He most definitely lives up to the locker room rumors. Intelligence and looks, this guy could win Ms. Universe in a heartbeat. Not even Steve Harvey could mess that one up. Not only is he passionate about his work, but he’s so gosh darn passionate when it comes to Brooke as well. The connection that these two share is something that I went gaga over. So sweet, so DAAAAAAAAAMNED HAAAAAWT! Yep, not HOT—HAWT! It could be that the cat and mouse game they play with each other worked their appetites but when they finally give into their desires their chemistry is so off the Richter scale. So not only was the bed shaking with giggles but boy oh boy, it was also shaking for other reasons which shouldn’t be mentioned for the sake of TMI. Buuuut…“Hello, thigh clench it’s good see you again old pal, how I’ve missed you.” You will self-combust from the heat that emanates between James and Brooke; and no, it’s not page after page of senseless hottie tottie scenes—it’s those couple of scenes that matter and that make the thigh clench all too real.

While this book could be dubbed as an easy going, feel good read it also has so much angst that comes from both Brooke’s and James’ vulnerabilities—her inability to settle down and his lack of experience in the love department. But the best part about it is that even though they’re both trying to navigate their way, the road always seems to lead back to one another. They make you realize that carefully mapped out plans aren’t always the right direction to take. Rather, it’s truly the heart that leads us the right way, to the right person. The Fortunate Ones really made me feel like the fortunate one to have found my top 2017 read so late into the year. Cue, “Save the Best for Last” by the beautiful Vanessa Williams, ya’ll! This was the book I needed and you can bet that this book is soon going to find its way on to my bookshelf just as it has already found its way into my bookish heart. With it’s delicious and addicting components, R.S. Grey has concocted the perfect modern day love story in The Fortunate Ones.

BOOK REVIEW: Wish You Were Here by Renée Carlino

61+FuemyPXLYou know when you’re looking at someone and you can’t help but smile at how oblivious they are to their own charm? That’s what was happening to me, and it was making me feel…happy. Euphoric. Something indescribable. It was like we already knew each other, like we had met in a previous life. Memories that didn’t exist began exploding in my mind like fireworks.

Charlotte has spent her twenties adrift, searching for a spark to jump-start her life and give her a sense of purpose. She’s had as many jobs as she’s had bad relationships, and now she’s feeling especially lost in her less-than-glamorous gig at a pie-and-fry joint in Los Angeles, where the uniforms are bad and the tips are even worse.

Then she collides—literally—with Adam, an intriguing, handsome, and mysterious painter. Their serendipitous meeting on the street turns into a whirlwind one-night stand that has Charlotte feeling enchanted by Adam’s spontaneity and joy for life. There’s promise in both his words and actions, but in the harsh light of morning, Adam’s tune changes, leaving Charlotte to wonder if her notorious bad luck with men is really just her own bad judgment.

Months later, a new relationship with Seth, a charming baseball player, is turning into something more meaningful, but Charlotte’s still having trouble moving past her one enthralling night with Adam. Why? When she searches for answers, she finds the situation with Adam is far more complicated than she ever imagined. Faced with the decision to write a new story with Seth or finish the one started with Adam, Charlotte embarks on a life-altering journey, one that takes her across the world and back again, bringing a lifetime’s worth of pain, joy, and wisdom.

Melanie’s 5+Star Review:

I’ve read plenty of Renée Carlino’s books and all of which I’ve loved. However, after reading Wish You Were Here, I can honestly and wholeheartedly say that I’ve found my ALL TIME FAVE Renée Carlino read. OMG you guys, this book had me on bated breath and it owned me in such an intense way.

I read through the ENTIRE 320 pages in one night. Not only were my eyes puffy the next morning because of lack of sleep but also because of the myriad of tears that rolled so freely down my face. Wish You Were Here has just got so much HEART. Written in Ms. Carlino’s signature prose, you can’t help but be sucked into the pages. As all of her other books, this one played like a movie — quickly paced yet it contained so much content you weren’t left feeling bereft. Everything had its place and every moment meant something. I love it when authors are able to portray their stories this way; it keeps readers engaged.

From the get go, I got a sense of what was to come. A foreshadowing that I can almost taste yet when all is revealed, I still found myself hyperventilating. An expected outcome to garner such an unexpected and overwhelming level of emotion. I was choked up as much as I was inspired. Because Wish You Were Here is exactly that sort of book. It’s prolific and eye opening to the reality of what is around us and a stark reminder of how we should truly be living our lives. To open our hearts and our minds to what’s most important to us in this lifetime. The one life we’ve been blessed to live.

A 2017 top fave read, I absolutely recommend this book to all. I loved, loved the characters– Charlotte and her bestie Helen. I fell in love with Adam and with Seth in equal yet so completely differently. The story line is one that is not easily forgettable. Wish You Were Here was exceptionally written and one that belongs on everyone’s bookshelves.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

unnamedI am left with this ache deep in my bones after finishing The Catch by K. Bromberg. I haven’t had a book hangover in what feels like forever (probably since I finished The Player) and of course, she’s left me not with just any book hang over but a massive and debilitating kind. How do I move on from this?! And the only logical yet exciting solution to that is my desperate need for a re-read. To say that the follow-up and final book in this duet met my every expectation would be a lie because it didn’t just meet it, it blew it right out of the park. It far surpassed what I was so nervously hoping for—It’s the “oh my gawd, don’t let this disappoint!!” The Catch was the ending that Scout Dalton and Easton Wylder so abundantly deserved and one that rabid fans like me prayed for.

As you all graciously remember, K. Bromberg left us in quite a tizzy at the end of The Player. There were so many unanswered questions about Scout and Easton’s future. It was a cliffhanger that literary masochists like myself totally get off on. Not the sort that left me banging my fist out of anger but rather out of childlike anticipation. Oh, trust me, I was alternately stomping one foot after the other desperate for answers as I’m sure many of you were. Well, I am here to tell you… To promise you that after you’ve read The Catch you will be left feeling this sense of cathartic relief which will only emboss the worthiness of having to wait for all of the answers that lay wake to your questions.

In the first book, Easton fought for every ounce when it came to Scout’s fear of love and commitment. He was all in practically from the start after realizing just how much Scout understood him and accepted him for being just Easton Wylder—not THE Easton Wylder the baseball great who breaks records after records. I was putty over him for constantly taking hits after hits from Scout, never relenting in letting her know exactly what she meant to him. Well, in The Catch it is Scout who steps up to plate. She wholly surrenders to her love for Easton and becomes the rock that Easton needs when life takes him for a ride. You guys, 20% into this book and I’d already lost it. My heart beat precariously too fast, my palms embarrassingly clammy, and my thighs so wonderfully quivered. From the start of this book, K. Bromberg opens the floodgates wide open and just lets the good and bad times roll. I couldn’t get enough and I didn’t want to stop. I legit finished this book in less than 5 hours—including my lunch hour, pathetic sneak reads at work, and when I finally got home I practically hung a ‘do not disturb’ sign on my neck.

I loved, loved how much Scout and Easton loved one another. The adoration and the respect just floored me; I just felt it all. I swooned, I “tee-hee’d”, I cried, I gasped, I sighed.  There is no dull moment in the entire length of this book and what I appreciate and commend about the author was her ability to throw down some really serious and heart breaking issues in the story line. Ones that have been festering and ones that catch you off guard without drawling them out to the point of boring or frustrating her readers out of their minds. The angst is there, it makes your heart go WYLD and makes your belly feel like it does when you’re on a downward ride on a rollercoaster but it doesn’t go on and on and on where you’re like, “ugh! Is it over yet?!” She brings that rollercoaster up back, gives resolutions which makes the characters that much more enticing. They’re decisive without being stoic or cold. They feel and work through their emotions without wallowing in self-pity. It’s what makes me fall in love with Scout and Easton and their beautiful connection minute after minute, page after page.

The Catch is beyond entertaining. It is filled with twist and turns that keep you on your toes. The revelations and their repercussions won’t make your eyes roll and make you feel fed up. Instead, they will shock you, give you life, and make you say, “Oh my geeeeerd!!! So good! So, so, so good” over and over and over again because that’s exactly what I found myself doing. There is no lack of intimacy which trust me, will make you squirm in your seat. Best of all, K. Bromberg doesn’t overload the pages with one sex scene after another. They’re done with purpose to of course, excite her readers but also serve as a reminder of the undeniable connection – both emotionally and physically between Scout and Easton. Tasteful yet breathtakingly sensual, a total package in my opinion.

So while I maneuver myself through this massive hangover, I end this review with a clear mind and a full heart. The Catch is a dream book for literary masochist who is also a hopeless romantic. This was utter perfection, no ifs or buts about it.

BOOK REVIEW: The Foxe and the Hound by R.S. Grey

51UAQ6O9x6L._AC_US218_

When your life is a hot mess at twenty, it’s cute. At twenty-seven…well, not so much.

It’s just that my lofty dreams–making it as a real estate agent, paying rent on time, showering daily–have stayed just that: dreams. Oh, and love? I’ve decided love might be a little ambitious for me at the moment. Instead, I’ve settled for the two guys who will never leave me: Ben & Jerry.

That is, until Dr. Adam Foxe takes up residence as the town’s new vet.

With his strong jaw, easy confidence, and form-fitting scrubs, it’s not long before every housewife in Hamilton is dragging neglected tomcats in for weekly checkups.

Like everyone else, I’m intrigued. Even after I spoil my chance at a good first impression, he still offers me a proposition I can’t refuse: play his girlfriend at a family function and he’ll hire me as his real estate agent. Welcome to love in the 21st century.

It’s too bad I underestimated Adam’s irresistible charm and the undeniable attraction that burns between us. The day he pins me to the wall and silences me with a kiss, the line between reality and ruse begins to blur. Every teasing touch brings me to my knees. Every kiss promises more.

It looks like my hot mess of a life is about to get a little hotter.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

unnamed (2)Laughter truly is the best medicine and in R.S. Grey’s latest release, The Foxe and the Hound, there are no shortages of those at all. This had to have been one of the funniest books I’ve ever read with its clever and witty dialogue to date. I was cackling like a fool garnering bizarre looks from strangers and I didn’t care one bit. The Foxe and The Hound is a delightfully, laugh out loud romantic comedy that is totally book shelf worthy.

I’ve read and loved so many of this author’s work but with this one, she has done something so absolutely amazing with in my opinion. The characters are utterly loveable. I found Madeleine to be outright charming – quirks and all. She appealed so greatly to me because she was someone who many of us could relate to. From her frustrations with her job to her dream of finding the right person to settle down with. It was her journey to finally falling into step with her career and to finding the right person for her that kept me entertained in the best way possible. Adam was just the right fit for Madeleine. Someone who had a solid and respectful career but also someone who’d been burned romantically in the past. One who had promised to shy away from any romantic notions, afraid to get hurt again. With Madeleine needing some foundation to take root, Adam was just the right person to provide that for her while Adam needed someone who believed in a happily ever after and one who was able to bring some lightness to his world.

The character interaction and the pacing were on point from start to finish. My eyes stayed glued to every page, never once missing a beat. The supporting cast was just as entertaining as the lead protagonists. I was literally clutching on to my stomach while I erupted in rowdy laughter.  There is no better feeling than getting to swoon and laugh all at the same time. Oh em gee, the shenanigans that Madeleine and Adam would find themselves in! One of the BEST!

I can’t possibly end this review without mentioning Mouse, Madeleine’s puppy. That adorable monster who was the catalyst to this whole story line. I promise, you won’t finish this book without falling in love with him just as equally as his humans.

If you are in the market for an easy breezy read with tons of laugh out loud humor and a full cast that is wonderfully hilarious then look no more! The Foxe and the Hound is THE PERFECT poolside/inside/wherever-side summer read.

BOOK REVIEW: THE CATCH (The Player 2) by K. Bromberg

The Catch

After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him.

Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton.

But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong.

With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone.

He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.
