BOOK REVIEW: THE CATCH (The Player 2) by K. Bromberg

The Catch

After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him.

Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton.

But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong.

With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone.

He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

unnamedI am left with this ache deep in my bones after finishing The Catch by K. Bromberg. I haven’t had a book hangover in what feels like forever (probably since I finished The Player) and of course, she’s left me not with just any book hang over but a massive and debilitating kind. How do I move on from this?! And the only logical yet exciting solution to that is my desperate need for a re-read. To say that the follow-up and final book in this duet met my every expectation would be a lie because it didn’t just meet it, it blew it right out of the park. It far surpassed what I was so nervously hoping for—It’s the “oh my gawd, don’t let this disappoint!!” The Catch was the ending that Scout Dalton and Easton Wylder so abundantly deserved and one that rabid fans like me prayed for.

As you all graciously remember, K. Bromberg left us in quite a tizzy at the end of The Player. There were so many unanswered questions about Scout and Easton’s future. It was a cliffhanger that literary masochists like myself totally get off on. Not the sort that left me banging my fist out of anger but rather out of childlike anticipation. Oh, trust me, I was alternately stomping one foot after the other desperate for answers as I’m sure many of you were. Well, I am here to tell you… To promise you that after you’ve read The Catch you will be left feeling this sense of cathartic relief which will only emboss the worthiness of having to wait for all of the answers that lay wake to your questions.

In the first book, Easton fought for every ounce when it came to Scout’s fear of love and commitment. He was all in practically from the start after realizing just how much Scout understood him and accepted him for being just Easton Wylder—not THE Easton Wylder the baseball great who breaks records after records. I was putty over him for constantly taking hits after hits from Scout, never relenting in letting her know exactly what she meant to him. Well, in The Catch it is Scout who steps up to plate. She wholly surrenders to her love for Easton and becomes the rock that Easton needs when life takes him for a ride. You guys, 20% into this book and I’d already lost it. My heart beat precariously too fast, my palms embarrassingly clammy, and my thighs so wonderfully quivered. From the start of this book, K. Bromberg opens the floodgates wide open and just lets the good and bad times roll. I couldn’t get enough and I didn’t want to stop. I legit finished this book in less than 5 hours—including my lunch hour, pathetic sneak reads at work, and when I finally got home I practically hung a ‘do not disturb’ sign on my neck.

I loved, loved how much Scout and Easton loved one another. The adoration and the respect just floored me; I just felt it all. I swooned, I “tee-hee’d”, I cried, I gasped, I sighed.  There is no dull moment in the entire length of this book and what I appreciate and commend about the author was her ability to throw down some really serious and heart breaking issues in the story line. Ones that have been festering and ones that catch you off guard without drawling them out to the point of boring or frustrating her readers out of their minds. The angst is there, it makes your heart go WYLD and makes your belly feel like it does when you’re on a downward ride on a rollercoaster but it doesn’t go on and on and on where you’re like, “ugh! Is it over yet?!” She brings that rollercoaster up back, gives resolutions which makes the characters that much more enticing. They’re decisive without being stoic or cold. They feel and work through their emotions without wallowing in self-pity. It’s what makes me fall in love with Scout and Easton and their beautiful connection minute after minute, page after page.

The Catch is beyond entertaining. It is filled with twist and turns that keep you on your toes. The revelations and their repercussions won’t make your eyes roll and make you feel fed up. Instead, they will shock you, give you life, and make you say, “Oh my geeeeerd!!! So good! So, so, so good” over and over and over again because that’s exactly what I found myself doing. There is no lack of intimacy which trust me, will make you squirm in your seat. Best of all, K. Bromberg doesn’t overload the pages with one sex scene after another. They’re done with purpose to of course, excite her readers but also serve as a reminder of the undeniable connection – both emotionally and physically between Scout and Easton. Tasteful yet breathtakingly sensual, a total package in my opinion.

So while I maneuver myself through this massive hangover, I end this review with a clear mind and a full heart. The Catch is a dream book for literary masochist who is also a hopeless romantic. This was utter perfection, no ifs or buts about it.

BOOK REVIEW: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

unnamedIntriguing and beguiling, I was entirely enraptured by The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo from start to finish. The allure behind Evelyn Hugo’s tell all was that it wouldn’t only reveal her secrets but would unravel the secrets of so many others. Taylor Jenkins-Reid captured Hollywood’s glamour and mystique in absolute perfection. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is definitely a top favorite read of all time for me. A dazzling story line written in such a brilliant and arousing way, Ms. Jenkins-Reid has definitely proven to be one of the best fictional authors out there. I take such pride in knowing that someone as talented as she lives in the very city I do– the very center of the entertainment world. As it was said in Pretty Woman, “Welcome to Hollywood! What’s your dream? Everybody comes here; this is Hollywood, land of dreams. Some dreams come true, some don’t; but keep on dreamin’ — this is Hollywood. Always time to dream, so keep on dreamin.”

For Evelyn Hugo, her goal had been to get out of Hell’s Kitchen in New York City where her Cuban parents immigrated. Losing her mother during such a crucial period in her life, her own mother’s dreams played a heavy part in becoming her own. I loved how in control Evelyn was of her future, of her destiny. She knew exactly what she wanted and she went for it using her greatest assets. A beautiful face, a body to be worshiped, and an opportunistic mindset – Evelyn stepped into the world of Hollywood and made it her playground.

Even years after at the ripe old age of seventy-nine, Ms. Evelyn Hugo still wields her power by enlisting an underrated, yet talented writer Monique Grant. It is revealed from their very first meeting that Evelyn holds a secret that would be life changing for Monique. I was both enthralled by each and every detail of Evelyn’s life and at the same time completely restless to find out what the secret was. Ms. Jenkins-Reid plays with your strings like a puppet master. There is no other way to describe how I felt about this book other than comparing it to a drug. I was enamored with Evelyn Hugo, like major girl crush. She had an undeniable magnetism, a sort of charisma that would win anyone over, add on the delectable sensuality that came so naturally— well, you’re pretty much putty in her hands.

I loved every bit of this book. It was both easy and turbulent all at the same time. I reveled in the story line. It oozed scandal but it thrived on love. It touched on such heavy and sensitive topics especially for its time period. My heart ached for Evelyn and those she loved but most especially to those who loved her. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo just had it all. So unique yet so absolutely enticing, this one needs to be adapted on to the big screen. This was an Oscar winning read worth a spot on everyone’s e-readers and book shelves.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00074]Baseball has never been sexier in an all-new novel by New York Times Bestselling Author, K. Bromberg.

Easton Wylder is baseball royalty. The game is his life. His passion. His everything.

So, when an injury threatens to end Easton’s season early, the team calls in renowned physical therapist, Doc Dalton, to oversee his recovery. Except it’s not Doc who greets Easton for his first session, but rather, his daughter, Scout. She may be feisty, athletic, defiant, and gorgeous, but Easton is left questioning whether she has what it takes to help him.

Scout Dalton’s out to prove a female can handle the pressure of running the physical therapy regimen of an MLB club. And that proof comes in the form of getting phenom Easton Wylder back on the field. But getting him healthy means being hands-on.

And with a man as irresistible as Easton, being hands-on can only lead to one thing, trouble. Because the more she touches him, the more she wants him, and she can’t want him. Not when it’s her job to maintain the club’s best interest, in regards to whether he’s ready to play.

But when sparks fly and fine lines are crossed, can they withstand the heat, or is one of them bound to get burned?

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

I am floating so high…. High, high all the way to the sky right now. K. Bromberg’s latest release The Player was an exhilarating home run! Ball thrown at nanosecond speed, that ear splitting crack against the bat, flying way beyond the stadium walls sort of home flippin’ run!!!! Oh you guys, I cannot even fully express just how much I loved the heck out of this book. It brought out my Julie Andrews arms wide dancing and twirling over the hills of the Sound of Music. The Player is the type of book that has you crawling out of your own skin and into its pages. The sort that I wanted to savor thoroughly and ever so slowly. The kind that makes you just hold your Kindle against your chest, swaying back and forth in anguish once it ends. This book is THAT book that you wish you could unread in the false idealistic belief that you could experience it anew. The characters, their chemistry, the plot line, and the delivery so overwhelmingly satisfying I couldn’t for the life of me put it down for more than a few “because I have to feed my family” minutes.

Scout Dalton is recruited to be the person to put the Austin Aces star player back on the field. Having grown up in the world of baseball, Scout has honed in on the ins and outs of rehabilitating the players from the disabled list back to the elusive active roster. Having learned and still somewhat being guided by the best, she is confident in securing not only the player’s success but also her own. I loved Scout, I loved everything about her—from her intelligence, to her good nature, even down to her skittishness. Having lost so many of the most important people in her life, she’s made herself believe that she’s cursed somehow. I couldn’t blame her one bit. Put in her shoes, I’d feel exactly the same way and gosh, I just felt so bad for her. This precious need to hold on to the very last source of love left in her life, she begins to falter in what she’s come to do when The Player she works on begins to work his way into her heart instead. And OMG OMG OMG does he ever work for her attention and her heart! Easton Wylder had every single bit of my body going wilder than ever before. You guys! He is utter perfection! P.E.R.F.E.C.T.I.O.N! Be still my ever fickle heart, Easton said and did the right things. He is every bit the bonafide definition of book boyfriends and book husbands combined. Physically built like a goddamn Adonis, it comes nowhere near the gold that his heart is made of. I legit surrendered my heart, my body, my damn panties over to him.

Easton and Scout’s connection was apparent from the very start and the start of it was pretty damn funny. That’s what I loved about them—there was a lightness and easiness to their relationship from the start. There was an understanding of one another’s needs and wants beyond any I’ve read as of late. The swoon factor is crazy intense. My ovaries bursting like piñatas at a Cinco de Mayo fiesta. Any sensibility left the building from the very first smirk out of Easton Wylder and the very first blush that colored Scout Dalton’s face. I loved how mystified Scout was by what Easton was making her finally feel and that he was able to see past what other never seemed to ever have. There weren’t copious amounts of sex scenes in this book but the times that there were… Holy shoot. My saliva gathered around my mouth from the deliciousness of such intimate and heady scenes. I loved it. Loved that it was littered throughout the book for the sake of it but rather written in with such finesse to make the biggest, most profound impact. There was this confounding force behind what they felt for one another—Scout constantly pushing Easton away and Easton quickly pulling her back in, the desperateness for one another and the peace they can only find with one another which made it all so downright addictive.

This was more than just a wonderful love story. There’s a familial element that we could all relate to which also drove the plot line. From the overpowering need to please their parents, to the stifling fear of letting them down. Both Scout and Easton held such an understanding about it that they both became an outlet for each other’s struggles, ultimately fueling the already powerful connection they have. I love a backstory to an already amazing story and I thought that K. Bromberg executed that perfectly.

The Player played me like a violin. From one sentence to the next, this book had me feeling like a giddy sixteen year old. Breath hitching, palms sweating, cheeks sore from smiling so dang hard—K. Bromberg was relentless in delivering THE FEELS. I cannot wait to see how Scout and Easton’s story plays out in the follow-up of this intoxicating duet. Until then, I take solace in knowing that a re-read is just at the tip of my fingers.

BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: Royally Matched by Emma Chase

Royally-Matched-3D-bookSome men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry Charles Albert Edgar Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap.

He’s not handling it well.

Hoping to force her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora goes on a much-needed safari holiday—and when the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own:

Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition.

A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world’s most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart.

While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye.

The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit…and her naughty sense of humor.

But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight.

As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

Holy SWOON alert, Batman!!! I’m talking level ten swoon here. If you are in the mood for pure, unadulterated romance then Emma Chase’s Royally Matched is just the book for you! I was quite literally feeling the high from everything that was Henry and Sarah! My head was floating amidst the clouds, seeing nothing but hearts all around me. UGH! I wish this would release before Valentine’s Day because seriously you guys, this is THE PERFECT read to get you into the mood. I didn’t think it was possible for Henry to outdo his brother Nicholas from the first book in this standalone series, Royally Screwed but my gosh this playboy totally did. I have always been a believer that the naughtiest, toughest womanizers fall the hardest when they find the one and this right here just proved it. Le Sigh. Yes… So many sighs and so much squealing happened over the course of one sitting.

The characters and their wicked chemistry are what made me fall madly in love with this book. I loved, LOVED both Henry and Sarah. Their vulnerabilities only proved to show how strong willed and in touch they were of themselves. I loved the honesty between them and their abilities to strengthen one another’s weaknesses. They were an answer to one another’s questions. It’s like they just fit together so perfectly even if from the exterior no one would ever think to put them together. Sarah, is a soul sister. An unpretentious literary enthusiast who once again proves that book nerds are the new sexy. She has a gentleness about her that could calm the harshest storms and in a way that’s exactly what she does with Henry. A modest, quiet, beautiful woman who tames the ostentatious, rowdy playboy prince. It’s what makes for the very best love stories.

Royally Matched was lit up by the delicious intimacy between Sarah and Henry. What is that saying?? “It’s always the quiet ones?”

You guys. The heat factor—WHOA MAMA!!! I was burning up and my lady bits were going haywire. I felt like I was literally vibrating—intense and inhibited. This is exactly what I mean when I say that I still believe in fairytales but my version just happens to have a dirtier mind. So flippin’ good!!! I had this silly smile on my face the entire time. Emma Chase has once again proven just why she’s an automatic must read author for me. The way that she’s able to weave the romance alongside the raunchy, and still be able to have you clenching your gut, rolling around the floor laughing is magic. No one else can quite pull it off like she can.

I will say it again, Royally Matched is SWOON WORTHY. It’s made for readers like me — a hopeless romantic with a dirty, dirty mind. I cannot recommend this book enough. The perfect read to pick up at any time, at any day, anywhere. So basically, just buy this beauty and enjoy the heck out of Henry and Sarah like I did. This absolutely has my book shelf worthy stamp of approval and another one added to my top 2017 reads.

Check out this standalone contemporary romance/women’s fiction, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

Mists of The Serengeti Cover

SynopsisOnce in Africa, I kissed a king…

“And just like that, in an old red barn at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, I discovered the elusive magic I had only ever glimpsed between the pages of great love stories. It fluttered around me like a newborn butterfly and settled in a corner of my heart. I held my breath, afraid to exhale for fear it would slip out, never to be found again.”

When a bomb explodes in a mall in East Africa, its aftershocks send two strangers on a collision course that neither one sees coming.

Jack Warden, a divorced coffee farmer in Tanzania, loses his only daughter. An ocean away, in the English countryside, Rodel Emerson loses her only sibling.

Two ordinary people, bound by a tragic afternoon, set out to achieve the extraordinary, as they make three stops to rescue three children across the vast plains of the Serengeti—children who are worth more dead than alive.

But even if they beat the odds, another challenge looms at the end of the line. Can they survive yet another loss—this time of a love that’s bound to slip through their fingers, like the mists that dissipate in the light of the sun?

“Sometimes you come across a rainbow story—one that spans your heart. You might not be able to grasp it or hold on to it, but you can never be sorry for the color and magic it brought.”

A blend of romance and women’s fiction, Mists of The Serengeti is inspired by true events and contains emotional triggers, including the death of a child. Not recommended for sensitive readers. Standalone, contemporary fiction.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

Mists of the Serengeti is quite simply, EXQUISITE! A heart rendering story of great loss and great love set in the mysterious and majestic lands of Africa. The writing, one of the best I’ve ever read. I am wholly awestruck. Everyone owes it to themselves to pick up this book. The consummate read for those looking to travel within a book’s pages. Leylah Attar delivered such a bold and lush narration in the eyes of remarkable, unforgettable characters. You will cherish every single moment and reflect on its hopeful message long after. Slow and steady at the start, overwhelmingly explosive thereafter.

Reading the blurb alone, had set a trail of goosebumps crawling against by skin and I had a gut feeling that this was going to be a wonderful book. I’d discovered and fallen in love with Ms. Attar’s poignant writing in The Paper Swan and after reading Mists of the Serengeti, it’s safe to say that I am without a doubt, going to be a lifelong fan of her work. In Mists of the Serengeti, we see a collision of worlds triggered by tragedy.

Jack, a broken man with a withered heart is unable to find any sense of purpose in life. I felt tremendous sympathy for Jack, my heart squeezed, my gut quaked, and my tears fell for the outrageous, cruel nightmare he had to live with day in and day out. It was Rodel’s appearance that would give Jack hope and it was that blossoming of hope that ultimately saves both he and Rodel. Dealing with her own loss, Rodel finds a note written by her sister Mo that contains a list of names, places, and dates. It is then that she sets forth on her own voyage to honor Mo’s memory, inadvertently setting into motion life changing events not only for herself but for those around her.

The love that develops between Jack and Rodel is one for the books. It’s everything and more that hopeless romantic’s like myself could wish for. It stems from something much deeper than most and the sorts that awaken the soul. With great loss it would only be fair that it be reciprocated with great love. The beauty behind the author’s words evoked feelings I can’t put into words. I highlighted sentence after sentence, paragraphs worth from one page to the next. This was the very definition of what written art feels and sounds like.

Leylah Attar will astound you with this masterpiece and I cannot recommend Mists of the Serengeti enough. This has my bookshelf worthy stamp of approval and is a definite top 2017 read.
