Strays (Urban Soul #2) by Garrett Leigh Review

Strays (Urban Soul #2)

Work, sleep, work, repeat. Nero’s lonely life suits him just fine until his best friend, Cass, asks him to take on a new apprentice—a beautiful young man who’s never set foot in a professional kitchen. Despite his irritation and his lifelong ability to shut the world out, Nero is mesmerised by the vibrant stray, especially when he learns what drove him to seek sanctuary on Nero’s battered old couch.

Lenny Mitchell is living under a cloud of fear. Pursued by a stalker, he has nowhere left to run until Nero offers him a port in a storm—a job at the hottest restaurant in Shepherd’s Bush. Kitchen life proves heady and addictive, and it’s not long before he finds himself falling hard and fast for the man who has taken him in.

Fast-forward a month and a neither man can imagine life without the other, but one thing stands in their way: a lifetime of horrors Nero can’t bring himself to share with Lenny. Or can he? For the first time ever, happiness is there for the taking, and Nero must learn to embrace it before fate steps in and rips it away.

I’m just going to jump right into my review. I feel the synopsis give all the information you need to know about the characters.

It took me a minute to remember all the characters in this book. It’s been 2 years since I read Misfits. I had to skim read it to just refresh my memory. But once I did… it all came flooding back. And I remembered all the characters. And how much I loved them and the book!

This book was most definitely a slow burn. By the time I got to the 50% mark…. I was struggling a bit. I was having a hard time paying attention. Nothing seemed to grab my attention. There was a lot of shop (restaurant/cooking) talk. Which I get… but, this book needed to be more balanced.

Nero and Lenny were taking things so slow. I’m not saying I wanted a sex fest. But I needed something more. Then we have the suspense part of this book. We get a little bit of it in the beginning. But I also felt things needed to speed up a bit with that too. By 60%… I kept wondering where is this all going. Nero still hasn’t opened up. He’s super grouchy and moody. Lenny’s character is just there. And we get a lot of restaurant talk and food talk.

Nero was so hot and cold. I wish there was a little more to him. I was having a hard time connecting with both MC. I say once I passed the 80% mark it flowed a little better between them. But I felt like that was too late in the book.

Then we have the whole thing with Lenny and his stalker. It all felt a little anti-climactic. I wanted more from it. We get something of it in the beginning. Nothing really at all in the middle. Then a rushed ending to it.

Overall… this wasn’t a bad read. I just wish there was a little more emoticons between them early on. And maybe a little more build up on the sexual attraction too.
I enjoyed reading about Cass, Jake, & Tom. I loved how they looked after Lenny and Nero.

BOOK REVIEW: THE CATCH (The Player 2) by K. Bromberg

The Catch

After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him.

Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton.

But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

unnamedI am left with this ache deep in my bones after finishing The Catch by K. Bromberg. I haven’t had a book hangover in what feels like forever (probably since I finished The Player) and of course, she’s left me not with just any book hang over but a massive and debilitating kind. How do I move on from this?! And the only logical yet exciting solution to that is my desperate need for a re-read. To say that the follow-up and final book in this duet met my every expectation would be a lie because it didn’t just meet it, it blew it right out of the park. It far surpassed what I was so nervously hoping for—It’s the “oh my gawd, don’t let this disappoint!!” The Catch was the ending that Scout Dalton and Easton Wylder so abundantly deserved and one that rabid fans like me prayed for.

As you all graciously remember, K. Bromberg left us in quite a tizzy at the end of The Player. There were so many unanswered questions about Scout and Easton’s future. It was a cliffhanger that literary masochists like myself totally get off on. Not the sort that left me banging my fist out of anger but rather out of childlike anticipation. Oh, trust me, I was alternately stomping one foot after the other desperate for answers as I’m sure many of you were. Well, I am here to tell you… To promise you that after you’ve read The Catch you will be left feeling this sense of cathartic relief which will only emboss the worthiness of having to wait for all of the answers that lay wake to your questions.

In the first book, Easton fought for every ounce when it came to Scout’s fear of love and commitment. He was all in practically from the start after realizing just how much Scout understood him and accepted him for being just Easton Wylder—not THE Easton Wylder the baseball great who breaks records after records. I was putty over him for constantly taking hits after hits from Scout, never relenting in letting her know exactly what she meant to him. Well, in The Catch it is Scout who steps up to plate. She wholly surrenders to her love for Easton and becomes the rock that Easton needs when life takes him for a ride. You guys, 20% into this book and I’d already lost it. My heart beat precariously too fast, my palms embarrassingly clammy, and my thighs so wonderfully quivered. From the start of this book, K. Bromberg opens the floodgates wide open and just lets the good and bad times roll. I couldn’t get enough and I didn’t want to stop. I legit finished this book in less than 5 hours—including my lunch hour, pathetic sneak reads at work, and when I finally got home I practically hung a ‘do not disturb’ sign on my neck.

I loved, loved how much Scout and Easton loved one another. The adoration and the respect just floored me; I just felt it all. I swooned, I “tee-hee’d”, I cried, I gasped, I sighed.  There is no dull moment in the entire length of this book and what I appreciate and commend about the author was her ability to throw down some really serious and heart breaking issues in the story line. Ones that have been festering and ones that catch you off guard without drawling them out to the point of boring or frustrating her readers out of their minds. The angst is there, it makes your heart go WYLD and makes your belly feel like it does when you’re on a downward ride on a rollercoaster but it doesn’t go on and on and on where you’re like, “ugh! Is it over yet?!” She brings that rollercoaster up back, gives resolutions which makes the characters that much more enticing. They’re decisive without being stoic or cold. They feel and work through their emotions without wallowing in self-pity. It’s what makes me fall in love with Scout and Easton and their beautiful connection minute after minute, page after page.

The Catch is beyond entertaining. It is filled with twist and turns that keep you on your toes. The revelations and their repercussions won’t make your eyes roll and make you feel fed up. Instead, they will shock you, give you life, and make you say, “Oh my geeeeerd!!! So good! So, so, so good” over and over and over again because that’s exactly what I found myself doing. There is no lack of intimacy which trust me, will make you squirm in your seat. Best of all, K. Bromberg doesn’t overload the pages with one sex scene after another. They’re done with purpose to of course, excite her readers but also serve as a reminder of the undeniable connection – both emotionally and physically between Scout and Easton. Tasteful yet breathtakingly sensual, a total package in my opinion.

So while I maneuver myself through this massive hangover, I end this review with a clear mind and a full heart. The Catch is a dream book for literary masochist who is also a hopeless romantic. This was utter perfection, no ifs or buts about it.

Big Shot - About book

BIG SHOT_Amazon To believe one person can change your destiny sounds absurd. But it happened to me… twice.

Ten years ago I had no idea what I wanted out of life, until I met Hannah Michaels. She was a computer-engineering student ready to conquer the social media world, and I was smitten. Even though I knew she was taken, I had to have her.

Being the big shot that I was, I didn’t let her status stand in my way. It wasn’t long before my hands were on her thighs and my name a whisper on her lips. This smart, sexy girl inspired me to greatness, helped me grow into the kind of man I never knew I wanted to be. The man I am today.

Too bad I hadn’t grown fast enough to keep her.

Moving on wasn’t easy, but I knew I had to let her go. Eventually, I found someone to share my days and nights with, and together we had a daughter. My life was nearly perfect until my world turned upside down.

A single father has challenges, and one of those is learning how to calmly deal with your child coming home in tears. I had no idea the day I pounded on my daughter’s classmate’s door, Hannah would be the one standing on the other side.

The wild, burning desire that rushed through my veins was unwanted, and yet impossible to ignore. Letting her in meant so much more this time around. Guilt hit me like a hammer. I hated myself. I hated her. The problem was I really didn’t hate her—I wanted her more than ever.

But this time around, I can’t have her.

This time it’s my status that stands in our way—and going up against myself just might be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

I absolutely loved this surprise novella!! Romy has had his eyes on Star for a long time. Never thinking he was good enough for her.
Then in a moment of weakness (and a little tipsiness) …. Romy and star got married secretly!

“I love you, and I vow to make your happiness and your desire my first honor in life. You will be my queen, and you will rule me. Do you understand?”

That’s when Star started to freak out!! But thanks to her dad. He really talked here down. And made her see the light when it came to Romy.

“Anyone who is around you for any amount of time can’t help but fall in love with you, Star. You shine so bright you can’t be missed.”

When Star finally started to let go and let Romy in… it was fireworks between them! And it was baby making time!

“I’ve fantasized about this moment for years, Star. Years. I’ve denied myself your beauty, but that won’t happen again. By law you belong to me, and I intend to breed you with as many heirs as your hips will give me.”

Romy was super possessive! He loved to see his princess pregnant! He showed Star that he loved her everyday. And Star got the kind of love she always wanted.

Forgetting You Forgetting Me ebook

My name is Lucy Tucker, and my life…it was perfect.
I worked the dream job. I had the most incredible family and friends. My home, Whispering Willows, a ranch in Montana, was everything I could ever wish for. My adoring fiancé, Samuel Stone, loved me unconditionally.
I had everything a girl could ever want.
But one fateful event shattered my perfect life. It’s unimaginable how simple, ordinary words can change a person’s life forever. For me those words were, “There’s been an accident.”
I thought Sam was my forever, but that forever came to a close the day Saxon Stone, Sam’s identical twin brother, came back. Saxon returned to Montana to help save Sam, however, the moment he entered my life, he turned my world upside down. But through chaos I somehow found clarity—clarity of who I was meant to be.
As time progressed, as seasons changed, and as a fire began to burn, I soon realized that Saxon was there for another reason…he was there to help save me.

Forgetting You Forgetting Me promo

Excerpt

“Let’s pretend tomorrow doesn’t exist.” Pressing his forehead to mine, he earnestly says, “Whatever happens now, it’ll just be memories from yesterday.” I can feel the tremble rumble throughout his entire body, and his uncertainty leaves me abandoning any lingering doubts. For this stolen moment in time, I just want to…feel.

Gently pushing on his bare, solid chest, he allows me to climb onto his lap as he nestles into the rocky terrain. Without a second thought, I wrap my legs around his waist and hold on tight, with no intention of ever letting go. His chest is rising and falling so quickly, I’m certain I can hear his heart hammering wildly within his body. The cadence matches mine as I seal my mouth around his. The touch of his full lips pressed to mine is complete perfection. But when he angles my mouth at the perfect slope and skillfully tangles my tongue with his, I know that this is nirvana.

The kiss at first is slow, like a roller coaster beginning its incline. But as we reach the pinnacle, it’s an exhilarating head rush of fast, breathtaking passion. When he senses me coyly opening up, lowering my guard and losing myself in the moment, he growls into my mouth. He dominates me with a fierce desire and in this moment, I am his.

I can’t keep up with the frantic pace, and finally, I surrender all I am. I allow him total control, melting when he sucks my bottom lip with a long, wet pull. I madly fuse our lips together, unable to get enough of this heady feeling, needing him to consume me, devour me, make me whole.
