BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: Double Down by Alessandra Torre

Double Down

By Alessandra Torre

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Cover Design: Najla Qamber Designs

In Vegas, there was one man who was off limits. One man… and I fell for him.

I knew there were risks. Still, I played the game. When Dario Capece called, I answered. When he beckoned, I came. When he broke all my rules, I looked the other way.

I knew there were risks. I just never realized they included death.

Melanie’s Review:

A heart pounding follow up to Even Money, Alessandra Torre once again takes us in a roller coaster of a ride filled with suspense and romance. As you all remember, we were left with our jaws on the floor at the end of Even Money so I was wary when I found the start of Double Down a bit slow– the sound and feel of it not quite reminiscent to how Even Money made me feel from start to finish. However, the pace started to once again pick up as soon as Dario and Bell were reunited and from there forward, I was HOOKED!

There’s something so brilliant about Ms. Torre’s writing. I love that she intertwines stories within stories outside of her main characters. It makes readers minds go all over the place, trying to solve the what, who, and when. With sweaty palms and an entirely too overactive heartbeat, I was drawn not only to uncover what was to come for Dario and Bell but also for Claudia. What was to come for the sinister yet mistreated antagonist? So many questions, so few answers. I really do hope that we see more of her in future books because it’s driving me wild not having some solid answers. If this was Ms. Torre’s intent, then she played it well. 🙂

As for Dario and Bell, I loved how their relationship grew into something so beautiful. I love how solid and genuine their feelings were for each other. They never once gave up on one another. It proved that everything they had to undergo to be together was worth it. Their chemistry never once ebbed– their hunger could only by sated by the other. Oh man, Alessandra Torre sure knows how to write up some sexy scenes. Double Down had no shortage of them and you will be thrilled about it.

This duet was just another reminder of why I love this author so much. Her characters are always strong, her writing bold and complex. There’s no doubt that when you pick up one of her books that you’ll be entertained and always wanting for more. I can’t wait to see what she has in store next.

BOOK REVIEW: Even Money by Alessandra Torre

51ATJNwauKL._SY346_Sometimes it only takes a minute. A connection of eyes across a room, a quickened heartbeat, and everything changes.

I was a cocktail waitress with a fondness for partying and meaningless hook-ups.
He owned half of Vegas, with the reputation to match.

I should have turned away. Instead, I stepped closer.

Then, the lies started.
Rumors spread.
Stalking commenced.
And someone died.

It didn’t stop me from falling in love.

*This is book 1 in a duet. The second book, Double Down, will release on June 18th*

Melanie’s Review:

IMG_6364A riveting read full of twists and turns. Alessandra Torre has once again written an addictive story line filled with mystery, suspense, and undeniable heat. Book after book she’s not slowed down one bit.

The heroine Bell Hartley has had some shit luck thrown her way and at the age of fifteen, the biggest of them was enough to knock her on her ass. But the best part about Bell is her resiliency. Yes, something so life changing most definitely affected her in ways she couldn’t control but instead of falling prey and getting sucked into a black hole, she takes control of her destiny and shot out of the small town she grew up in. A town that made her a victim. A town who didn’t believe her when she needed them most. Her luck starts to turn for the better when she finds herself in Sin City. Las Vegas, a metropolis built on gambling, vice, and other forms of entertainment. An oasis made to dazzle and indulge. Scantily clad cocktail waitresses are ubiquitous in the casinos and that’s where Bell finds herself in. Employed by 2 men who have become brother figures, she sets on this new life with one rule in mind— never fall in love.

Dario Capece gets everything he wants. No isn’t a word that is part of his vocabulary. When Bell strikes a chord with him from their very first meeting, there is no other choice but to have her in whatever capacity he could. It should have stayed at just sex. Something so simple, an act so pleasurable. But of course, life loves to throw out those curve balls and it isn’t long before their hearts decide to join in on the fun. Something that started out so simply quickly escalates into something murderous.

They should have known that danger was lurking behind their whirlwind romance. With the amount of power, wealth, and influence Dario has over the city, it shouldn’t have been a surprise. Marrying into a wealthy & powerful family doesn’t come without a price. And that price is a psychopathic father in law with plans to bring down Bell to keep his dysfunctional family intact even if it means murder.

I was absolutely enthralled with Even Money. Unable to put my Kindle down, it only took one sitting for me to get through the whole book. The ending. OMG, the ending just about had me jumping off the bed. I flippin’ NEED the next one like I need my next breath. I’m all out of sorts knowing I have to wait until June 18th to find out exactly how everything will unfold. Cliffhangers like this gives me life— a literary masochist’s weakness. Even Money is a MUST read!

A brand new contemporary romance from New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans is AVAILABLE NOW!

He’s my most delicious secret.

The hot Suit I had a one-night stand with one evening.

I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name.

Only that we shared a taxi, and he was staying at the hotel where I worked.

We met in room 301. Where he commanded not only my body but my soul.

The next day he was gone and I only had a memory of him.

I could still taste his kisses, feel his demanding touch.

I searched for him for months. Daydreaming about him. Wondering if I’d ever find him.

Until the day I find myself staring face to face with his jeweled black eyes again.

He says lets keep it casual, and my heart knows that falling for this workaholic in a three-thousand-dollar suit is off the table.

Because he has a secret. One that’s a deal breaker for me.

My Suit has a name.

Ian Ford.

And this is our story.

My eyes lock on a third figure sitting with them. As I near, the man glances my way before quickly shifting his gaze. I continue to stare at him as I approach, and it doesn’t take long for his gaze to return to me. His large figure rises to full height as he stands to greet me, and I feel a bolt of electricity hit me in the chest as familiar eyes stare back at me.

He’s tall. Dark-haired. Gorgeous. With deep, thick-lashed eyes you want to sink into. And lips to suck on like they’re all that exists between you and heaven. I stop walking, stop breathing, because . . . he is here.

A moment passes and Bryn seems to notice my shock.

But shock doesn’t come close to it.

Because never in my whole life has my heart leapt so far and fast. It feels as if it’s ripping out of my chest. I can barely force my legs to move for fear of hearing my knees knock together. I struggle for air, but it feels like someone cut off my windpipe connecting my nose and lungs.

He wears a white dress shirt and black slacks, and his face is chiseled and brooding. The real shock lies in the intensity brewing in his dark eyes as they stay locked on mine. My heart speeds up as I hold his gaze. The city bustles around us. Making eye contact is not something I do often, living in a city of millions, but I can’t take my eyes off him.

The memory of having him inside me returns with a vengeance.

Bryn begins to introduce us. “Um. Ian, this is—”

“Sara. We’ve met,” Hot and Dirty Workaholic interrupts with a stiff smile.

Our eyes meet, and for a moment it feels like nothing else exists.

His name is Ian.

Fucking Ian, with his serious, handsome face and shiny, black hair. He’s as lit as I remember. Straight out of a Suits episode, and I am dying.

Piece of Work, an all-new sexy and hilarious romance from Staci Hart, is available NOW!

Marble isn’t the only thing that’s hard at this museum.

His body is as chiseled as Adonis. His lips are as sculpted as David. And his ego is the size of the Guggenheim.

You know the type—wolfish smile and the gravity of a black hole. The kind of man who sucks all the air from the room the second he enters it. My cocky boss thinks this internship was wasted on me, and he doesn’t hesitate to let me know.

But he’s wrong, and I’m going to prove it to him. If I can stay away from his devil lips, that is. Lips that cut me down and kiss me in the same breath, leaving me certain he’s on a mission to ruin my life.

And maybe my heart.

Melanie’s Review:

It was like a flush rising from my toes to the crown of my head– slow at first then quickly escalating to a wild heat that seemed to spread across my body. A love story that is so much deeper than what the book cover could possibly convey. Staci Hart is not a new author to me and I’ve enjoyed so many of her books but I have to say that Piece of Work is by far my most favorite so far. I was completely blown away by how entirely well written and how well researched it was and as each page turned, the more gratifying the story became.

Rin Van de Meer is the epitome of the ugly duckling story we were all told as little kids. You see her bloom from a timid, quiet, and insecure college student and into the bold, intricate, and confident lady she was meant to become. Landing her dream internship at the MET, Rin makes quite a lackluster first impression towards her new boss (Bianca) and her boss’s boss (Court). In her too short jeans, ripped up sneakers, and mousy demeanor she is quickly dismissed but thanks to some amazing friends who won’t let her take “no” for an answer and a life changing shopping trip later, Rin sets out to change the preconceived notion people have of her. Armed with chic new clothes and a tube of red lipstick she begins to realize that hiding in the shadows was not something that she wanted anymore. She no wanted to be seen and seen she was.

Court Lyons had been badly burned in the past. Used for his name and the title he holds at the MET, he’s learned to keep people at a distance. It’s when he sees those beautiful, vibrant red lips and legs that seem to go on for days that his whole world is blown to bits. Court was staggered by the realization that this woman is the very same nervous, unconfident intern he once dismissed. But it wasn’t only Rin’s makeover that catches his attention – her intelligence and her expertise on the very same things that he lives and breathes for is ultimately what wins him over. The more time they spend together, the more tempting the whole situation becomes.

And let me just say… When these two art buffs give into their desires, their chemistry is a work of art on its own. A very erotic and sensual one at that. The heat that slowly simmered swiftly turned to burning hot. You guys… Wow, wow, wow! All the dirty talk and the getting’ down to business scenes were insanely, ridiculously, downright sexy. More than that, the connection they had saved them from their biggest fears—Rin’s fear of taking risks and believing her worth and Court’s fear of being able to trust anyone and accepting the fact that he indeed is enough to be loved outside of his name and stature.

Ms. Hart has so wonderfully incorporated a woman of color as her heroine and in my humble opinion something that is needed to be done more often. It gives women like myself the chance to see themselves on the pages of a romance too. I loved the message that just because a woman feels good about themselves in new clothes and makeup doesn’t make them shallow. Sometimes, that is exactly what we need. To look good in order to feel good. It’s a mechanism to making one realize just how priceless their worth is. Though the start was quite slow for me, I’m so glad I decided to continue to climb because once it picked up it was simply the best!

He smirked and flipped up his sunglasses.

“You’re early,” I clipped.

“I would have had my assistant text you, but she’s currently bedridden.”

You could have texted me.”

“I didn’t have your number,” he said simply.

His eyes shifted to look behind me, and I turned to find my friends standing me in a row with my suitcase in front of them, my messenger bag on top, and fake smiles on all their faces, lips together, their judgment about as quiet as a foghorn.

“These your roommates?”

“Yup,” was all I said as I turned and took my suitcase, hugging each of them down the line with promises to text when we landed. And then I turned to Court, rolling my suitcase in front of me like like a riot shield.

I tried to pick it up to carry it over the threshold, but it was heavy, and before I could get far, he’d swept it out of my hands like it was a loaf of bread and not fifty pounds of mascara and shoes.

I waved at my friends, who offered encouraging smiles and hand gestures, and I closed that door, immediately regretting every decision I’d made to bring me to the moment I turned around.

He stood at the door to the backseat, holding it open for me like a gentleman, which I knew he was not. But the look on his face of regret and deference, under the hard shell of his brooding, was almost too much to bear.

So I did the only thing I could.

I ignored him.

I ignored his gorgeous lips as they tilted and the sleek cut of his jaw as I walked past him. I ignored the sight of his long legs as he climbed in next to me and the smell of him that made me want to grab him by the lapels of his jacket and bury my nose in his chest.

The driver took off, and I busied myself in my bag, looking for my headphones and book.

His eyes were on me. I pretended like I didn’t notice.

“You’re not wearing lipstick,” he stated.

Headphones, headphones, headphones. “It’s an international flight, Court. Of course I’m not wearing red lipstick for a ten hour flight.”

A pause. “Rin, I—”

Aha! I popped in my earbuds the second they were in hand.

His lips flattened, his face unamused. Rin, his lips said, but I smiled and shrugged, pointing to my ears.

“Noise canceling,” I said way too loud.

His chest rose and fell with a sigh I couldn’t hear—I’d already turned on music, a playlist we’d built the night before geared toward resisting douchery and unwanted-slash-totally-wanted advances—and he reached into his own bag, a leather affair at his feet, his hand disappearing into the bag and reappearing with a book, which he handed to me.

He watched me with his expression shrouded as I paused, my eyes on the offered book. An image of Penitent Magdalene by Tintoretto filled the cover, and I met his eyes, pulling my earbuds out by the cord.

“I thought you could use this. For your proposal,” he said, giving nothing away. “I…A colleague of mine wrote it, so if you have any questions, I can connect you. If you want.”

I took it from his hand, surprised and disarmed. “Thank you,” was all I said. He opened his mouth as if to speak again, but closed it, and with a nod, he reached back into his bag for his own book. Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake.

I put my earbuds back in place, trying not to bite my lip, but it found its way between my teeth despite the effort at the sight of him sitting there, dressed like that, reading Margaret Atwood. After giving me a thoughtful gift, a book he knew I would want, one I would need for my dissertation.

Court Lyons made about as much sense to me as a scrambled up Rubik’s Cube.

I leaned against the door as I flipped through his gift, doing my best to sort through the rush of questions and confusion as Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s sang about being cheated by the opposite of love. And I found I knew exactly the feeling.

BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: 1001 Dark Nights: Rough Ride by Kristen Ashley

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley comes a new story in her Chaos series…

Rosalie Holloway put it all on the line for the Chaos Motorcycle Club.

Informing to Chaos on their rival club—her man’s club, Bounty—Rosalie knows the stakes. And she pays them when her man, who she was hoping to scare straight, finds out she’s betrayed him and he delivers her to his brothers to mete out their form of justice.

But really, Rosie has long been denying that, as she drifted away from her Bounty, she’s been falling in love with Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh, a Chaos brother. Snap is the biker-boy-next door with the snowy blue eyes, quiet confidence and sweet disposition who was supposed to keep her safe…and fell down on that job.

For Snapper, it’s always been Rosalie, from the first time he saw her at the Chaos Compound. He’s just been waiting for a clear shot. But he didn’t want to get it after his Rosie was left bleeding, beat down and broken by Bounty on a cement warehouse floor.

With Rosalie a casualty of an ongoing war, Snapper has to guide her to trust him, take a shot with him, build a them…

And fold his woman firmly in the family that is Chaos.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Melanie’s Review:

There is no better feeling than after reading Kristen Ashley’s words. Every single time I pick up one of her books it’s like a shot of caffeine goes through me and I feel ridiculously rejuvenated. I had a taste of Rosalie and Snapper’s story in Walk Through Fire and definitely wanted more. So I was so happy to get that Ms. Ashley gave us more in her upcoming release, Rough Ride which is part of 1001 Dark Nights novella.

The start of this book was heartbreaking to read and quite frankly it made Rosalie burrow herself deep in my heart so early on. Because this is a novella. We are obviously getting a quicker, more compact storyline. I thought this worked out great seeing as we already had some background to Snapper and Rosalie’s relationship.

This novella was short and sweet. You can’t help but fall in love with the protective way Snapper treats Rosalie. He encompasses exactly what is expected of a Kristen Ashley alpha male. Rough around the edges but so completely delicious. The sort that makes you want to jump inside the book and take on the heroine’s role yourself. Utterly swoon worthy. Their chemistry is both sweet and naughty. The very best of both worlds.

Rough Ride was a perfect novella that will make Chaos fans like myself hungry for more. I can’t wait to see how all of what’s been developing finally unfolds in this highly addictive MC series.

About Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: Midnight Valentine by J.T. Geissinger

True love never dies.

Megan and Cassidy were childhood sweethearts who thought they would be together forever. Fate had other plans. Soon after they were married, Cass’s life was tragically cut short. Still grieving her soul mate five years later, Megan moves to the small town of Seaside, Oregon, hoping to rebuild her life.

Her first night there, she meets the town recluse, Theo. Withdrawn, guarded, and mysteriously silent since a terrible accident left him scarred, Theo takes an instant and inexplicable dislike to Megan. But as their paths cross again and again, Megan becomes convinced there’s more to Theo than meets the eye.

When she discovers the reason for his silence, his nightmares, and especially his pointed dislike, Megan becomes convinced of something far more astonishing.

Is a second chance at a once-in-a-lifetime love possible, or is a broken heart the cruelest kind of liar?

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

You know you’ve read one heck of a book when you can’t stop thinking about it long after you’ve turned the last page. J.T. Geissinger is a new author for me and her newest release, Midnight Valentine just absolutely blew me away. Now I can’t wait to search for her other works because if they are anything like this one, then you’ll find me binge reading her stories all day long. This story continues to linger in my mind and my heart. Everything… I mean every single thing about this book was magnificent. It’s been a LONG time since a book has left me feeling this way. Midnight Valentine is wonderfully unique and it aroused feelings that I haven’t really ever felt before. It’s like taking your first yoga class and feeling soreness in muscles you never knew you had before the very next day.

It really is best to go into this book blind. I know that sounds cliché but this is one of those story lines that cannot be spoiled—not even a tiny bit. The blurb should be enough to lure you in and trust me when I say that once you’re into those pages you will never want to leave. As I’d mentioned before, J.T. Geissinger is a brand new author for me so I feel this sense of unbelievable gratification that I decided to give Midnight Valentine a go. I fell in love with her writing. It’s inviting and exceptionally captivating. The dialogue between the characters are both smart and witty. I am obsessed. Her words are prolific and it seriously made me want to do some soul searching. You become invested in the characters and hope for nothing less than a happy ending. Theo and Megan—uggghhh these two owned me! The character development, one of the very best I’ve ever read. You’re all in with them, no whats or ifs or buts about it. They’re relatable, lovable, and stammeringly impossible to forget.

Midnight Valentine is currently standing strong on my BEST reads of the year and one that’s a definite, definite top ever read. With its mysterious plot line, addictive prose, and memorable characters, this book  is one that will leave a lasting impression. It has my book shelf worthy stamp of approval and one that I know I’ll find myself aching to re-read. If you read one part of this review it’s this—THIS IS A MUST READ, ONE THAT CANNOT BE MISSED!!!

BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: Wildcat by Max Monroe

Wildcat: a football formation in which the ball is snapped, not to the quarterback, but to another player lined up in the quarterback position.

Wild, Cat: a beautiful woman from the sky, who hooked me against the rails, and has me on the ropes. Sweet like honey, with a hint of sass burning behind her pretty brown eyes, she took over my heart without warning.

I’m Quinn Bailey, quarterback for the New York Mavericks.

Sports analysts predicted I’d break records and take my team all the way.

 But no one predicted this.

And just like the other team, I never saw it coming.

Unfortunately, you many not MARRY this book without proper consent from the authors.

Though the idea of a spouse who does nothing but provide you endless laughs for hours at a time, turn you on, make your heart swell, and require nothing but your undivided attention for several hours in return sounds nearly orgasmic, there are laws. And the Fictional Municipality only allows twenty book wives at a time.

Due to high demand for a significant other that encourages you to leave the dishes in the sink, the laundry in the washer, and the vacuum in the closet unattended, we’ve implemented a shift schedule of marital proprietorship. You will be rotated accordingly.

Melanie’s 4 Star Review:

Holy swoon alert! Honestly, I didn’t expect anything less from Max Monroe but I swear these two gave us something so insanely sweet, I felt like I had a cavity on every tooth once I was done. Quinn Bailey scored touchdowns not only in the field but all over my hopeless romantic heart. For me, Wildcat was all about the Mavericks quarterback. He won me over times a million.

While the start of the book was a little slow for my taste, once it started to pick up it really picked up. The means in which Quinn wooed the beautiful Catharine Wild drove me quite wild as well. The chemistry they had was explosive. There was so much sweet and also so much heat. I was burning up during certain moments between Quinn and Cat. Gosh, these two were so hot for each other.

In typical Max Monroe fashion, there’s also quite a bit of humor sprinkled all over the pages. The inhaler moment?! YAS! LOL LOL! Reminded me so much of Georgia (from Tapping a Billionaire) and her Benadryl moment. I genuinely enjoy these authors writing. It’s always one heck of an entertaining ride.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, Wildcat may just be the perfect read whether if you’re spending it with a Quinn Bailey of your own or spending it with girlfriends as loveable as Catharine Wild.
