BOOK REVIEW: Complicated by Kristen Ashley

IMG_4734When small town Nebraska sheriff Hixon Drake meets Greta Dare, the connection couldn’t be stronger, but the timing couldn’t be worse.
Dealing with the fallout of a divorce he never wanted and setting up a new home for his kids, Hix becomes that guy, that one he never wanted to be, and puts a stop to things before they can even start. Protecting his kids, and himself, is his only priority.
Greta, on the other hand, has found the place for her and the brother she adores that’s perfect for them—a sleepy little town in Nebraska. She’s learned from life that there are no hopes and dreams. The only thing to look forward to is peace. And that’s what she works hard to build for herself and her brother. Right up until Hix walks into her life.
Hix can’t fight the pull and stay away from Greta for long. And Greta’s finding it hard not to hope for something more with all the promise that is Hix.
But when the first murder that’s happened in over five decades rocks his small, sleepy county, Hix has got to learn to trust again, convince Greta to take a shot with him, and at the same time catch a killer.
In other words, things are definitely…Complicated.

Melanie’s 4.5 Star Review:

As with all Kristen Ashley books, she sweeps you away in the intense romance brewing between her characters. In Complicated, we meet Hix a recently divorced father of 3 and also the town’s Sheriff. Admired by both genders of the population, Hix finds himself in a precarious situation when he falls in love with Greta Dare. Ms. Dare, a divorcee herself seems too glamorous for this small town. With luxurious hair, stylish clothes, gorgeous face, and a beautiful voice, she proves that her heart is even more attractive than her looks. Both finding themselves in surprising and uncharted territories, they navigate through it together in a way that only KA can write about. Complicated is a swoon worthy love story that is sure to set you heart on fire.

I love how candid both Hix and Greta are with each other from the get go. Knowing just how complicated it would get if they both pursued what was happening between them, they try their hardest to break off the connection that seems to naturally tether them to one another. It doesn’t take very long for them to realize the impossibility of staying away. I have to say that aside from KA’s Honey series, Complicated has got to be one of her hottest yet. I swear, I will never look at a head board the same way again. If I’ve made you curious about it, then I highly suggest you buy yourself a copy and find out for yourself. Trust me, you won’t regret it. In fact, you’ll love it. The passion that swirls around Hix and Greta is undeniable—it’s both profound and exciting. These are just some of the things I love about picking up a Kristen Ashley book. She makes you believe that even the most impossible is possible when it comes to love.

There are some elements of suspense and mystery entwined into the plot line as well which had me at the edge of my seat wanting to know who did it and why. I do wish there was a bit more closure than what was given about it but I also enjoyed the way it all came back to full circle. I’m so glad that the Ms. Ashley decided to release this once Audible exclusive novel into both digital and print because Hix and Greta’s love story was meant not only to be heard but to be lived through the pages too.

About the Author:

Kristen AshleyKristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Melanie’s 3-Star Review:

Julie A. Richman’s Love on the Edge of Time is a unique love story that defies time itself. I went into this book blind and I have to admit that it took me on an unexpected and surprising journey. I thought that the author did a great job with the plot—very well thought out and creative. I appreciated how different this was compared to all the books I’m accustomed to reading.

There was something so attractive about Jesse’s character that went beyond his rock star image. What I really loved about his character was his courage to clean up after realizing just how messed up his life had become. I always find that a character’s strength is best measured during their darkest hours—much like in real life. By reaching back out to his therapist Claire, Jesse not only opens the possibilities of what his life could lead to when living cleanly and healthy but also discovers a whole new realm through regression therapy.

Kylie who is also a patient of Dr. Claire Stoddard catches Jessie’s eyes from the start. There is this inexplicable pull between them that even they both can’t seem to understand. While there were aspects of Kylie’s character that I admired—like her self-confidence and her love for life, there was also something so baffling about her. It was like, she was one person at certain times and another at other moments. The way her character was introduced was a little strange for me. I honestly thought maybe she had nymphomania issues that she was being treated for but then it turns out that it had nothing to do with it at all… Hrm.

I have to admit, I did have some trouble with the 3rd person narration (as I always do). But there were some steamy scenes in this book that I found so provocative. I loved that there were so many different elements to them – like the settings and the situations that they were in. It was never the same so that kept my interest going. If you are looking for a book unlike most and one that is a change of your normal pace, then I think this one is for you.

This time he didn’t text. He just called, waking her at two-fifteen a.m.

“Bare-ly dressed again tonight?”

Her laugh, filled with sleep was gruff. “Barely dressed every night.”

“What exactly do you have on?”

“A pink tank top and pink silk bikini.”

“Take them off,” he ordered.

“Excuse me,” there was an element of surprise in Kylie’s voice.

“You heard me. Take them off. Now.” Just hearing rustling on the other end of the line, he could feel his cock stiffen and it felt damn good after all this time. Baby, I’m back, he thought.

“We’re having phone sex? But, Jesse, we haven’t even kissed yet,” her protest was weak. And even she knew it.

“Yes, we’re having phone sex, and when I get back to New York, we’re going to do a lot more than kiss. You’ve friend-zoned me, Toots, and I’m busting out.”

Kylie was smiling on her end of the phone. Friend-zoned Jesse Fucking Winslow? Was he serious? “Nobody puts Jesse in a friend-zone,” she couldn’t help herself.

“Are they off?” He totally ignored her joke.

“What was that?” he asked, his voice gruff and serious.

“Yes, they’re off.”

“Okay, spread your legs, and with your phone, take a picture of your pussy for me.”

“Seriously?” She knew she was blushing in the dark.

“Take the picture, Kylie.”

“Okay, but if you sell this to the paparazzi, I will kill you.” There was a rustling sound, then, “Oh, my God, I can’t believe I’m doing this.”

He laughed.

“Okay, here it comes. I hope it’s photogenic. It would be really embarrassing to have a non-photogenic pussy.”

Pulling the phone from his ear to look, Kylie could hear his moan, exciting her even more.

“So photogenic, Toots, just like the rest of you. And I love the red landing strip. It’s so hot. Oh, man, I love this. Spread your legs wider and use one hand to spread your lips open for me and send me another.”

Following his directions, she did as he requested.

BOOK REVIEW: Fault Lines by Rebecca Shea

At eleven he was my first crush. At sixteen he became mine. At nineteen he broke my heart and destroyed me. That was ten years ago and the last time I saw Cole Ryan. They say you never get over your first love…I beg to differ. I left my shattered heart buried in a town I never expected to return to. I erased every thought of him and buried the memories never to be found. I moved on…now ten years later I have the perfect life, the perfect fiancé, the perfect career. Everything I ever wanted until I’m forced to go back and face my past and the man that destroyed me. He won’t stop until I know the truth no matter how hard I fight it. In the end, lies will be uncovered, hearts will be broken, and my life as I’ve come to know it destroyed.

Melanie’s 5-Star Review:

23130817_934619833361500_6159695122029122196_nI feel like I’m floating on cloud nine right now. Rebecca Shea’s latest release was a kaleidoscope of every single thing that I love in a book. I am a savage, a fiend when it comes to second chance and first love romances. There’s something I find utterly fascinating about the vulnerability that comes with first loves and in Fault Lines, Ms. Shea captures that so genuinely. The intense love that Cole and Frankie have for one another made my own heart soar. I could feel my heartbeat going haywire with full anticipation for their eventual reunion. I legitimately felt like I was coming out of my own skin when it finally happened. I love that a set of fictional characters and a plot line that may be loosely based on facts but is truly fiction can come off so honest and so real – that to me, is pure magic. It’s a thrilling reminder of the real reason behind why I love to read and I get such a kick out of books that arouse that out of me.

So a little background about what Fault Lines is all about– Frankie and Cole fell in love during such a significant stage in their lives and finding the love of their lives during such an early age was both lucky and unfortunate. With so many opportunities that lay ahead of them and the sort of potential that Frankie held, decisions were made that broke them apart. A decision that would alter the directions their lives would take. A decision that would cause them ten years of a world of pain. I honestly felt the despair caused by the years of separation between them. It was like losing the very heart of who they were. Even amidst the achievements they both accomplished apart, the taste of success remained bland. It isn’t until Frankie is forced back into their small town of Crescent Ridge, Nevada that they both remember what their lives should be. I was absolutely taken with Frankie and Cole from the very start of this book and I craved every single moment they were together and detested the times they were apart. I felt like an addict, unable to get enough of them. I was quite frankly OBSESSED with them!

Fault Lines is written with a welcoming feel. It was made for readers to feel the power behind first loves and the feeling of respite from the redemption that comes along with second chances. I’ve read all of this author’s work and I’ve loved each of them in their own right but Fault Lines shook something inside of me. A magnitude 10.0 that made this one climb at the top of my favorites. There is no denying the intensity behind Cole and Frankie’s love for each other just as there is no doubt that this is best seller worthy. If you are looking for something that will give you the ultimate feels then I suggest that you give this book a try.

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.

But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.
What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

Melanie’s 4-Star Review:

K. Bromberg’s Cuffed is a great read which took me on an unexpected emotional roller coaster. It’s a wonderful love story of two childhood best friends reunited after being separated due to tragic reasons. I was sucked right into Grant Malone’s charm and protective nature and I was utterly in awe of Emerson’s strength and resiliency.

I am going to be honest, based solely on the book cover, I never thought that the plot line it contained was what it would be. I expected a super sexy, light hearted read only to be blasted with the very opposite. Don’t get me wrong, there were lots of sexy with Grant and Emmy but the best parts about this entire book was the emotional journey that Ms. Bromberg set for her readers to take. I mean, I should have known that there would be more than what meets the eye. That’s what I love most about her writing—the substance that she intertwines with all the swoon and steam that we all expect and love about reading contemporary romances. Cuffed addresses such a heavy topic, a trigger for some, and definitely something that all of us would move mountains to eradicate. No one should have to endure what Emmy had to. I cried and I heaved and I got mad. There were a myriad of emotions that came along as the pages began to wane. Again, such a surprising twist to what I had thought coming into this. I loved that!

With its outstanding characters and profound story line, Cuffed will definitely have you at the edge of your seat. A must read that is anything like what you’d believe based solely by judging it by its cover.

BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: Show Me the Way by A.L. Jackson

Show Me the Way

The first stand-alone novel in A.L. Jackson’s brand-new Fight for Me series…

“This book is absolutely perfect.” – Corinne Michaels, New York Times Bestselling Author

The first sexy, captivating, stand-alone novel in the brand-new FIGHT FOR ME series from NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author A.L. Jackson . . .
Rex Gunner. As bitter as he is beautiful.
The owner of the largest construction company in Gingham Lakes has been burned one too many times. His wife leaving him to raise their daughter was the last blow this single dad could take. The only woman he’ll let into his heart is his little girl.
Rynna Dayne. As vulnerable as she is tempting.
She ran from Gingham Lakes when she was seventeen. She swore to herself she would never return. Then her grandmother passed away and left her the deed to the diner that she once loved.
When Rex meets his new neighbor, he knows he’s in trouble.
She’s gorgeous and sweet and everything he can’t trust.
Until she becomes the one thing he can’t resist.
One kiss sends them tumbling toward ecstasy.
But in a town this size, pasts are bound to collide. Caught in a web of lies, betrayal, and disloyalty, Rex must make a choice.
Will he hide behind his walls or will he take the chance . . .

Melanie’s 4-Star Review:

An agonizing yet hopeful love story, AL Jackson takes you on an emotional journey in her latest release Show Me the Way. As expected, Ms. Jackson didn’t hold back on the feels – eliciting a stabbing yearning for a happily ever after for Rynna and Rex. From the very start of this book there was a sense of foreshadowing that the past would eventually come crashing down into the present. That thought alone sent chills down my spine and had my insides churning with anticipation as to how everything would pan out. This to me is the best sort of feeling when picking up a book because it keeps readers like me from wanting to set down our e-readers or our paperbacks.

Both Rynna and Rex live in fear. So much so that it has stifled them both from truly moving forward from their pasts. From the very moment that they lay eyes on one another, there was this unearthly connection that bound them to each other before they could even fully comprehend it. Their relationship quickly escalated even with the back and forth reluctance day in and day out—really mostly from Rex because he had his adorable daughter Frankie Leigh to think of. Being left behind by so many women in his life, he’s become jaded and isn’t able to recognize the genuine love that Rynna had to offer. And with Rynna battling her own demons, it proves difficult for them to give into their feelings. However, the beautiful thing about a good romance is the eventual surrender when both lust and love overtake all the apprehension.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought that Frankie Leigh was a force to be reckoned with. You can’t help but fall in love with her in an instant just as Ryanna did. There was  quite a bit of suspense that drove the plot and when everything was revealed, you can’t help but yelp at the revelation. I love that A.L. Jackson has discovered her flair for suspense which I first began to see it in her Bleeding Stars series giving an avid fan like myself another layer to her writing skills.

If you’re looking for angst, embellished with suspense and wrapped up nicely in something sexy then honestly Show Me the Way is the book for you. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the rest of this standalone series.

BOOK REVIEW: We Own Tonight by Corinne Michaels

From New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author Corinne Michaels, comes a sexy new STANDALONE romance novel.

WE OWN TONIGHT is available now!

I’m not a one-night stand kind of woman. I’m especially not the woman who has a few drinks at a concert and ends up in bed with my childhood celebrity crush, Eli Walsh.

However, that’s exactly where I find myself.

What’s a girl to do after a drunken mistake? Run. I grab my clothes and get away from the powerful, irresistible, and best-sex-of-my-life superstar as fast as I can. His gorgeous green eyes, rock-hard body, and cocky smile have no place in my world. My life is complicated enough.

Someone forgot to tell him that.

Eli is relentless. Pushing his way into my heart, wearing me down, proving he’s nothing like I assumed, and everything I need. But when my world shatters to pieces, he holds the broken bits together. Unwillingly, I fall desperately in love with him.

He made me think we’d have forever . . . I should’ve listened when he said we could only own tonight.

Melanie’s 5-Star Review:

A storyline that had it all—heartwarming and heart breaking at the same time with a swoon-worthy love story that will make you lose all sense. Corinne Michael’s upcoming release, We Own Tonight owned me from start to finish finally breaking me out of my month long book slump. I read the entirety in one straight shot, unable to put down my Kindle for even a minute.

As a police officer, Heather Covey has learned not only to guard herself from the dangers lurking on the streets of Tampa but also to guard her heart from ever falling in love again. One night out with her girlfriends to see their all-time favorite boy band from their teenage years changes the course of her entire adult life. Eli now in his early forties still hasn’t settled down, rather he’s made the most out of his fame with an endless amount of one night stands with fellow entertainers and of course, groupies. He definitely didn’t anticipate that one show would change his entire life. Latching onto one another’s eyes, Heather and Eli make a connection amidst the thousands of fans swarming the arena by just one, quick look. OMG you guys, I just about lost my marbles imagining what it would be like to be Heather—to have caught the eye of Justin Timberlake during his N*Sync days! It’s this fantasy that we’ve all had as crazed fans in our younger years that makes this book so fun. It’s reliving these secret (or not so secret) fantasies through Heather and Eli that will totally win you over.

I loved every single moment that I shared with these two. From Eli’s relentless ways of pursuing Heather that had my heart beating a hundred miles a minutes to Heather’s eventual sweet surrender to Eli’s charms. This book had all the right moves. If you’re looking for something light hearted with a whole lot of heart, then We Own Tonight is just the book for you!

RELEASE BLITZ & BOOK REVIEW: Royally Endowed by Emma Chase

Logan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??

Sexy. As. Hell.

And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.

For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, protective royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.

To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.

The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.

But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go.
Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.

Any woman would be proud to bring him home to her family.

But there’s only one woman he wants.

For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.

He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.

But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.

Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love.

Melanie’s 5-Star Review:

A delightfully sweet romance, Royally Endowed made my heart skip a beat from one page to the next. I absolutely adore this entire series and this latest is the perfect addition.

Ellie Hammond is Olivia’s younger sister. As Olivia is thrown into the spotlight– becoming a royal Duchess and wife to abdicated Prince Nicholas, Ellie also becomes thwarted into fame. And with voracious fans hungry for any bit of the royal family, Ellie is assigned her own security detail to protect her. This is where Logan St. James enters the story. At first, he’s hesitant to take on the job, feeling slightly insulted to be given an assignment to help guard Ellie– a young, free spirited American girl. What starts off as something of a nuisance to Logan ultimately becomes the best blessing both of them could have ever asked for.

I loved the progression of their story. It never felt rushed even with all the years and the milestones that it covered. Instead, it helped create a foundation for their growing relationship. It was that much sweeter that in a way, Logan was there to see Ellie mature and Ellie was able to see Logan soften. I loved that they became a part of each other’s lives in such a unique way. With Logan’s natural need to protect Ellie and Ellie’s charming need to make Logan feel loved had me melting in a puddle of goo. There were so, so many swoon worthy and hot moments in this book. I thought that they made the perfect match.

Royally Endowed is a 5-star read that  I guarantee it will set both your lady parts and your hearts on fire. Emma chase, you’ve totally done it again!

But then the mood shifts, as if the air becomes thicker, weighted, more . . . sultry.

Because slowly, Logan sinks down to one knee in front of me—looking in my eyes the whole time. In this position, I could touch his shoulders, comb my fingers through his thick, dark hair. He’s the perfect height for me to bend down and kiss his mouth—the perfect height for him to kiss me back . . . in a lot of places.

My breath hitches. And I wonder he feels it too.

There’s a sound of tearing Velcro, and Logan takes something off his ankle—a holster, with a small silver knife, about three inches long.

“Keep this on you all the time,” he says seriously. “Just in case. If you wear a skirt, the strap will fit around your thigh.”

And I almost laugh. Most girls get a ring from a guy on his knees. I get a murder weapon. But still, it makes me feel safe . . . watched over. Like I’m something precious that deserves to be protected.

I take the knife from him, testing the surprisingly solid, heavy weight of it in my hand. I press my index finger to the tip.

Logan grabs my wrist tightly. “Careful. It’s sharp.”

There’s a small, painless nick, a tiny bead of blood, so I put my finger in my mouth, sucking.

And Logan’s watching me again.

Watching my mouth.

His chest seems to rise just a little faster, and his throat ripples when he swallows. He bends his head, curves his strong back, and then I feel his hands on my ankle, securing the strap. His touch is warm and self-assured. It’s the way he always moves—confident and experienced. Logan knows his body and he knows how to use it, in every way possible.

I almost moan. The sound is in the back of my throat, but I keep it trapped. I never knew the ankle was an erogenous zone, but it sure as hell is now. A hot pulse of pleasure streaks from Logan’s fingers on my bare skin, up my thigh, between my legs.

And I throb there, growing swollen and heavy as he keeps his hands on me.

Can he tell? Does he know? He’s so aware of everything, always so attuned, I wonder if he can sense my arousal . . . feel it in the air that clings between us.
