RELEASE BLITZ & BOOK REVIEW: Royally Endowed by Emma Chase

Logan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??

Sexy. As. Hell.

And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.

For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, protective royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.

To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.

The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.

But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go.
***
Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.

Any woman would be proud to bring him home to her family.

But there’s only one woman he wants.

For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.

He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.

But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.

Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love.

Melanie’s 5-Star Review:

A delightfully sweet romance, Royally Endowed made my heart skip a beat from one page to the next. I absolutely adore this entire series and this latest is the perfect addition.

Ellie Hammond is Olivia’s younger sister. As Olivia is thrown into the spotlight– becoming a royal Duchess and wife to abdicated Prince Nicholas, Ellie also becomes thwarted into fame. And with voracious fans hungry for any bit of the royal family, Ellie is assigned her own security detail to protect her. This is where Logan St. James enters the story. At first, he’s hesitant to take on the job, feeling slightly insulted to be given an assignment to help guard Ellie– a young, free spirited American girl. What starts off as something of a nuisance to Logan ultimately becomes the best blessing both of them could have ever asked for.

I loved the progression of their story. It never felt rushed even with all the years and the milestones that it covered. Instead, it helped create a foundation for their growing relationship. It was that much sweeter that in a way, Logan was there to see Ellie mature and Ellie was able to see Logan soften. I loved that they became a part of each other’s lives in such a unique way. With Logan’s natural need to protect Ellie and Ellie’s charming need to make Logan feel loved had me melting in a puddle of goo. There were so, so many swoon worthy and hot moments in this book. I thought that they made the perfect match.

Royally Endowed is a 5-star read that  I guarantee it will set both your lady parts and your hearts on fire. Emma chase, you’ve totally done it again!

Ellie

But then the mood shifts, as if the air becomes thicker, weighted, more . . . sultry.

Because slowly, Logan sinks down to one knee in front of me—looking in my eyes the whole time. In this position, I could touch his shoulders, comb my fingers through his thick, dark hair. He’s the perfect height for me to bend down and kiss his mouth—the perfect height for him to kiss me back . . . in a lot of places.

My breath hitches. And I wonder he feels it too.

There’s a sound of tearing Velcro, and Logan takes something off his ankle—a holster, with a small silver knife, about three inches long.

“Keep this on you all the time,” he says seriously. “Just in case. If you wear a skirt, the strap will fit around your thigh.”

And I almost laugh. Most girls get a ring from a guy on his knees. I get a murder weapon. But still, it makes me feel safe . . . watched over. Like I’m something precious that deserves to be protected.

I take the knife from him, testing the surprisingly solid, heavy weight of it in my hand. I press my index finger to the tip.

Logan grabs my wrist tightly. “Careful. It’s sharp.”

There’s a small, painless nick, a tiny bead of blood, so I put my finger in my mouth, sucking.

And Logan’s watching me again.

Watching my mouth.

His chest seems to rise just a little faster, and his throat ripples when he swallows. He bends his head, curves his strong back, and then I feel his hands on my ankle, securing the strap. His touch is warm and self-assured. It’s the way he always moves—confident and experienced. Logan knows his body and he knows how to use it, in every way possible.

I almost moan. The sound is in the back of my throat, but I keep it trapped. I never knew the ankle was an erogenous zone, but it sure as hell is now. A hot pulse of pleasure streaks from Logan’s fingers on my bare skin, up my thigh, between my legs.

And I throb there, growing swollen and heavy as he keeps his hands on me.

Can he tell? Does he know? He’s so aware of everything, always so attuned, I wonder if he can sense my arousal . . . feel it in the air that clings between us.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ & BOOK REVIEW: The Difference Between Us by Rachel Higginson

RevisedDBU1I’m cursed.

At least when it comes to finding Mr. Right.

I’m tired of men that only want one night stands or blind dates that are nothing but awkward and uncomfortable. I’m tired of avoiding inappropriate text messages and the constant disappointment of always meeting Mr. Wrong.

After all these years of dates that lead nowhere, I can admit that it’s me. I’m the problem. I’m shy and picky and cursed. Definitely cursed.

So I’ve decided two things.

The first? I’m giving up dating and relationships and men in general. Maybe, possibly, forever.

The second? I’m going to have to try harder to avoid Ezra Baptiste.

If I couldn’t hack it in the kiddy pool of dating, I certainly can’t swim in his deep end. He’s too successful. Too intense. He’s all man when I’m used to nothing but boys pretending to be grownups. He’s everything I’m afraid to want and so far out of my league we might as well be different species entirely.

So he’ll need to find a different artist to paint his mural. And a different graphic designer to help him with his website. He’ll need to find someone else to glare at and flirt with and kiss.

It can’t be me.

We’re too different.

Melanie’s 4.5 Star Review:

image1 (2)I have always enjoyed Rachel Higginson’s writing. Whether she was making me ugly cry or swooning like a mad woman. I’ll basically read anything she churns out because I know that I’m in for a good time. In her latest release, The Difference Between Us, Ms. Higginson brings us something light and sweet but without a doubt, one full of heart.

The protagonists in this book are ones we are quite familiar with (if you’ve read the first book in this standalone series). Ezra who is Killian Quinn’s best bud and Molly who is Vera Delane’s BFF are front and center in this book. From the very moment that these two met one another in The Opposite of You I just knew that there was a really good story brewing. My assumptions were proved right.

I loved, loved the mystery and intrigue behind Ezra. A tall, dark, handsome man who has made a success of himself after crawling out of a not so easy childhood. Intimidating yet unbelievably warm and caring, you can’t help but fall head over heels in love with him.  I mean when he says things like, “You should have always been Jasmine” after Molly confesses her and Vera’s obsession with Aladdin as young kids—fighting to be Jasmine each time they saw the film… C’mon, how would that not melt your heart?! And Molly, God did I love her character too. I loved how protective and grateful she was of her friendship with Vera. I can always judge a person’s character by how they value their family and friends and Molly Maverick was one of the good ones. The interaction and the progression of Ezra and Molly’s relationship was sweet as candy. It drew many sighs and my awes out of me. The back and forth emails between them were so fun to read as well.

You can’t help but get lost in the pages of this book. The Difference Between Us will leave a huge perma-smile on your face. A feel good love story about two unlikely people who at the end you can’t ever imagine being without one another. I enjoyed this book a lot and I swear it ya’ll, this is the perfect end of summer read.

Melanie’s 5-Star Review:

unnamed (1)

Kristen Ashley cannot be stopped and for that I am most grateful. I just love, love the fact that I know for a fact even before I can get the full gist of the book that I will walk away from a KA read with nothing less than a stellar opinion about it.. My obsession and my love for her work just continues to grow time and again as soon as I finish another one of her books. Soaring was another one to add to the list.

Amelia’s and Mickey’s story is fueled by so much emotion—deceit, heartbreak, and redemption. This book is about a second chance at life by finding love again. Love between lovers and love between family and friends. Many times, I felt like breaking down for Amelia. My heart was bogged down with sympathy and my stomach was in knots with anxious anticipation. I loved Amelia’s character so much. She showed such courage and humility from the very start of this book. Trying to win her children back after a bitter divorce that turned her into an emotional mess, Amelia realizes that she can no longer live in the past. Packing up her bags and following her children to Magdalene was not only her chance at rebuilding a relationship with her children but at finding herself in the process. Born in an insanely wealthy family, Amelia has always been directed to act and to dress a certain way and it’s when life comes crashing down on her that she realizes just how lost she is. She’s unable to identify who exactly Amelia Hathaway is–  as someone other than an ex-wife, mother, sister and daughter. I loved her journey to eventual self-discovery. She showed immense heart and kindness through it all. Ms. Ashley couldn’t have thought up of a better heroine for this storyline.

If you’ve read the first book in this series, The Will then you would be very familiar with Mickey Donovan. I definitely had starry eyes for him and was so happy to know that Soaring would be his story. And with the way that Kristen Ashley creates her famous alpha males, how could I possibly resist Mickey’s charms?! Oh my goodness, this gorgeous firefighter turned me into a giggling sixteen year old. He is a kick butt dad with a heart of gold and of anyone in town, this guy needed a happy ending. Mickey knew as soon as his eyes landed on Amelia, that his new next door neighbor may just be that happy ending. But as soon as he finds out that she’s a wealthy heiresses, he pulls back, giving into his misconceptions about her. But he soon learns that judging her merely because of the family she was born into, he may just be losing out on the best thing he could have in his life.

The sexual tension between these two was heavy from the start. I loved the cat and mouse game they played—Amelia’s sass to Mickey’s sarcasm. But as time moves along and as they start to get to know one another, it’s plain to see that they are each other’s end games. The game changer to both their lives. I am always in awe of how perfectly attuned KAs couples are to one another. It’s what makes me such an addict to fiction. A match made in heaven that comes with a whole lot of drama and angst but knowing full well that a happily ever after lays await. This was exactly how I felt about Soaring. It had the ups and the downs all of which made me feel like I was soaring right alongside the characters.

Kristen Ashley has done it again for me with Amelia and Mickey’s love story and I cannot wait for the bittersweet finale of this series.

About the Author:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: The Catch by K. Bromberg

After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him.

Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton.

But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong.

With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone.

He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

unnamedI am left with this ache deep in my bones after finishing The Catch by K. Bromberg. I haven’t had a book hangover in what feels like forever (probably since I finished The Player) and of course, she’s left me not with just any book hang over but a massive and debilitating kind. How do I move on from this?! And the only logical yet exciting solution to that is my desperate need for a re-read. To say that the follow-up and final book in this duet met my every expectation would be a lie because it didn’t just meet it, it blew it right out of the park. It far surpassed what I was so nervously hoping for—It’s the “oh my gawd, don’t let this disappoint!!” The Catch was the ending that Scout Dalton and Easton Wylder so abundantly deserved and one that rabid fans like me prayed for.

As you all graciously remember, K. Bromberg left us in quite a tizzy at the end of The Player. There were so many unanswered questions about Scout and Easton’s future. It was a cliffhanger that literary masochists like myself totally get off on. Not the sort that left me banging my fist out of anger but rather out of childlike anticipation. Oh, trust me, I was alternately stomping one foot after the other desperate for answers as I’m sure many of you were. Well, I am here to tell you… To promise you that after you’ve read The Catch you will be left feeling this sense of cathartic relief which will only emboss the worthiness of having to wait for all of the answers that lay wake to your questions.

In the first book, Easton fought for every ounce when it came to Scout’s fear of love and commitment. He was all in practically from the start after realizing just how much Scout understood him and accepted him for being just Easton Wylder—not THE Easton Wylder the baseball great who breaks records after records. I was putty over him for constantly taking hits after hits from Scout, never relenting in letting her know exactly what she meant to him. Well, in The Catch it is Scout who steps up to plate. She wholly surrenders to her love for Easton and becomes the rock that Easton needs when life takes him for a ride. You guys, 20% into this book and I’d already lost it. My heart beat precariously too fast, my palms embarrassingly clammy, and my thighs so wonderfully quivered. From the start of this book, K. Bromberg opens the floodgates wide open and just lets the good and bad times roll. I couldn’t get enough and I didn’t want to stop. I legit finished this book in less than 5 hours—including my lunch hour, pathetic sneak reads at work, and when I finally got home I practically hung a ‘do not disturb’ sign on my neck.

I loved, loved how much Scout and Easton loved one another. The adoration and the respect just floored me; I just felt it all. I swooned, I “tee-hee’d”, I cried, I gasped, I sighed.  There is no dull moment in the entire length of this book and what I appreciate and commend about the author was her ability to throw down some really serious and heart breaking issues in the story line. Ones that have been festering and ones that catch you off guard without drawling them out to the point of boring or frustrating her readers out of their minds. The angst is there, it makes your heart go WYLD and makes your belly feel like it does when you’re on a downward ride on a rollercoaster but it doesn’t go on and on and on where you’re like, “ugh! Is it over yet?!” She brings that rollercoaster up back, gives resolutions which makes the characters that much more enticing. They’re decisive without being stoic or cold. They feel and work through their emotions without wallowing in self-pity. It’s what makes me fall in love with Scout and Easton and their beautiful connection minute after minute, page after page.

The Catch is beyond entertaining. It is filled with twist and turns that keep you on your toes. The revelations and their repercussions won’t make your eyes roll and make you feel fed up. Instead, they will shock you, give you life, and make you say, “Oh my geeeeerd!!! So good! So, so, so good” over and over and over again because that’s exactly what I found myself doing. There is no lack of intimacy which trust me, will make you squirm in your seat. Best of all, K. Bromberg doesn’t overload the pages with one sex scene after another. They’re done with purpose to of course, excite her readers but also serve as a reminder of the undeniable connection – both emotionally and physically between Scout and Easton. Tasteful yet breathtakingly sensual, a total package in my opinion.

So while I maneuver myself through this massive hangover, I end this review with a clear mind and a full heart. The Catch is a dream book for literary masochist who is also a hopeless romantic. This was utter perfection, no ifs or buts about it.

BOOK REVIEW: The Foxe and the Hound by R.S. Grey

51UAQ6O9x6L._AC_US218_

When your life is a hot mess at twenty, it’s cute. At twenty-seven…well, not so much.

It’s just that my lofty dreams–making it as a real estate agent, paying rent on time, showering daily–have stayed just that: dreams. Oh, and love? I’ve decided love might be a little ambitious for me at the moment. Instead, I’ve settled for the two guys who will never leave me: Ben & Jerry.

That is, until Dr. Adam Foxe takes up residence as the town’s new vet.

With his strong jaw, easy confidence, and form-fitting scrubs, it’s not long before every housewife in Hamilton is dragging neglected tomcats in for weekly checkups.

Like everyone else, I’m intrigued. Even after I spoil my chance at a good first impression, he still offers me a proposition I can’t refuse: play his girlfriend at a family function and he’ll hire me as his real estate agent. Welcome to love in the 21st century.

It’s too bad I underestimated Adam’s irresistible charm and the undeniable attraction that burns between us. The day he pins me to the wall and silences me with a kiss, the line between reality and ruse begins to blur. Every teasing touch brings me to my knees. Every kiss promises more.

It looks like my hot mess of a life is about to get a little hotter.

Melanie’s 5+ Star Review:

unnamed (2)Laughter truly is the best medicine and in R.S. Grey’s latest release, The Foxe and the Hound, there are no shortages of those at all. This had to have been one of the funniest books I’ve ever read with its clever and witty dialogue to date. I was cackling like a fool garnering bizarre looks from strangers and I didn’t care one bit. The Foxe and The Hound is a delightfully, laugh out loud romantic comedy that is totally book shelf worthy.

I’ve read and loved so many of this author’s work but with this one, she has done something so absolutely amazing with in my opinion. The characters are utterly loveable. I found Madeleine to be outright charming – quirks and all. She appealed so greatly to me because she was someone who many of us could relate to. From her frustrations with her job to her dream of finding the right person to settle down with. It was her journey to finally falling into step with her career and to finding the right person for her that kept me entertained in the best way possible. Adam was just the right fit for Madeleine. Someone who had a solid and respectful career but also someone who’d been burned romantically in the past. One who had promised to shy away from any romantic notions, afraid to get hurt again. With Madeleine needing some foundation to take root, Adam was just the right person to provide that for her while Adam needed someone who believed in a happily ever after and one who was able to bring some lightness to his world.

The character interaction and the pacing were on point from start to finish. My eyes stayed glued to every page, never once missing a beat. The supporting cast was just as entertaining as the lead protagonists. I was literally clutching on to my stomach while I erupted in rowdy laughter.  There is no better feeling than getting to swoon and laugh all at the same time. Oh em gee, the shenanigans that Madeleine and Adam would find themselves in! One of the BEST!

I can’t possibly end this review without mentioning Mouse, Madeleine’s puppy. That adorable monster who was the catalyst to this whole story line. I promise, you won’t finish this book without falling in love with him just as equally as his humans.

If you are in the market for an easy breezy read with tons of laugh out loud humor and a full cast that is wonderfully hilarious then look no more! The Foxe and the Hound is THE PERFECT poolside/inside/wherever-side summer read.

He wasn’t always this rich. This hot. This difficult.

Aaric Christos was a guy who protected me. Wanted me. Maybe even loved me.

That man is gone.

In his place is the most powerful real estate tycoon in the city.

He’s a cold, ruthless, aggressive businessman.

The only one who can save me and my startup from ruin.

It takes every ounce of courage to put my pride aside and ask for his help.

I didn’t expect him to offer it easily.

And he doesn’t.

Instead, he vets me harder than he’s vetted anyone.

Don’t invest in what you don’t know, he says.

He’s assessing every piece of me, to the point I’ve never felt so bare.

I yearn for the boy I once knew, whose touch once craved me.

Putting it all on the line will be worth it, I tell myself.

Until I realize—too late—that some risks are not worth taking.

Melanie’s 3.5 Star Review:

Katy Evan’s Tycoon reminded me of what clawing desperation feels like. A need that could only be alleviated by that one person who is as essential as your next breath. So much of the clawing want between the two characters were reminiscent of what I loved so much about Ms. Evan’s Real series. So much of what Aaric and Bryn were to each other and their intense connection took me back to what it was that made me first take notice of this author’s work.

Aaric Christos and Bryn Kelly find themselves reunited 14 years after being apart. From the moment that Aaric lays his eyes on Bryn those many years ago, he knew that she was the one. With the timing and their young age being huge factors, Bryn instead became the one who got away. Given a second chance to make her dreams come true, Aaric who has become Manhattan’s real estate and investment tycoon makes sure that this time around, he will do everything in his power to hold on to the woman of his dreams. Bryn definitely doesn’t make it easy for Christos. While both have built walls around them for fear of getting hurt, it felt as if Bryn’s was impenetrable—built impossibly high with no chance of being scaled. I have to say that there were lots of moments, especially during the first half of this book that left a bitter taste in my mouth. I was frustrated during a number of moments with Bryn because of her indecisiveness. Many times the reasoning behind the cat and mouse game between them just didn’t make sense to me. Jagged and disconnected, I had to put down my Kindle a few times to give myself some time to gather my wits about it because I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.

This book was a definite hate, love for me. While the first half of this book seemed to drag, I couldn’t quite get enough once the goodness got going. The moment that it finally clicks for Bryn to give into what her heart truly desired was the defining book moment for me too. You see, the animalistic, primal chemistry that existed between them truly did leave me breathless. I felt the lust, the need, and the love down to my bones. I reveled in everything that Bryn and Christos had to offer each other. I loved how hot they were for one another and most especially, I loved the gentleness and the reverence between them. Oh my, my… it was like opening a can of Pringles. Once you pop, you can’t stop and I didn’t want it to stop even when it had to end.

So while Tycoon started on a rough patch for me, there is absolutely still no question in my mind that Katy Evan’s is a romance mastermind. Her characters and their love stories will always, always be ones I will pick up—no questions asked… No blurbs or sexy covers needed. Knowing that it was written by her is enough for me. If you looking for a passionate love affair with tons of ups and downs then Tycoon is definitely one you’ll want as your next read.

Unthinkable (I’m Ready)- Alicia Keys

Excerpt:

I hop off the train and walk several walks to his building.

It’s a brownstone in Park Avenue, one of the most elite of the elite spaces in town.

My lungs feel a little bit overworked from awe as I head up the steps to the double doors, grateful that I came dressed to kill in a little black dress, a jacket, and pumps. Simple, but effective.

See, I may be feeling a little awkward, but at least I don’t look it.

I’m greeted by his maid. She’s dressed in black and white, her hair drawn back in a neat bun, her expression stoic and formal as she leads me down the hall to a gorgeous study.

I catch my breath when I notice all the books and shelves.

It’s like a reader’s paradise in here. There’s a sleek chrome bar, a modern mahogany glass-topped desk, and two huge whiskey-colored leather chairs that almost swallow me up when I’m instructed to wait in one.

I drum my fingers, inhaling the scent of leather and wine, remembering a guy I knew with his mechanic navy-blue uniform, black streaks on his jaw, his big nose always the first thing you’d see, which was a pity because he had beautiful eyes and a really sinful pair of lips.

He’s living in luxury now. Wow. Good for him.

I hear footsteps approaching and the little hair on my arms prick at attention. My head turns as a tall, dark figure steps into the room, and the most intimidating guy I’ve ever seen enters and crosses the room toward the desk. He walks like he’s the shit…his strides proud and composed, elegant and powerful.

Christos, I hear myself breathe in surprise.

He’s so tall now…six three, at least. Dirty-blonde hair, gold-green eyes, chiseled jaw, and a gorgeous profile.

All in black, he looks very much a New Yorker.

He’s wearing a black jacket, black pants, and a black turtleneck beneath the jacket…

I stare at him, my jaw hanging a little bit open. The man is….all man. Testosterone. Muscles. Height. Width. My chest hurts all of a sudden because I realize…

The boy you knew is gone.

I force myself to stand. “Thank you for seeing me.”

He heads to the bar to pour two drinks, then he prowls over, takes the whiskey leather chair across from mine and leans forward, pushing a glass of cognac with one finger across a small table, toward me.

And he waits.

In silence.

But my stomach dips as if he’d said something ultra-sexy and decadent.

“You might not remember me, I’m sorry to be reaching out like this,” I say, nervous.

“What do you want?”

There’s a pleasant shiver as he speaks. Recognition of his voice, even though it’s far deeper than I remember.

“I was told you sometimes invest in startups.”

“I’d say more than sometimes.” He raises his eyebrows as if I should’ve done my homework better.

Ugh, Bryn! Focus! Be SMART! Make yourself and your business irresistible! A silence settles as he eyes me, slowly setting his drink down as he leans forward and finally, unexpectedly, smiles. At me.

It’s just a smile.

But the world tilts under its impact.

“Hello, little bit.” Amusement touches his gaze as he tilts his head and watches me. “You know, I’d think you’d have grown up the ten-plus years since I last saw you. At least an inch.” He leans back in his seat, seemingly displeased. Wow, this guy is not the lanky kid I knew once. This guy oozes danger.

Every ounce of “boy” is gone. Oh God. For a moment I wish that we could go back in time and I could discuss my startup with the guy I knew before.

But time travel is not really my talent, and it seems like I have yet to see if I even have any special talents at all—depending on what this guy thinks.

“I grew two in width,” I shock myself saying.

He laughs then, his eyes drinking me in openly.

“Shame on you, you’re not trying to see if it’s true?” I ask him, frowning now.

He shrugs casually, his lips curved at the corners. “I can’t help it. Something has to have changed.”

“Why?”

“Because nothing good ever lasts. Even you, little bit.” A smile touches those unforgettable gold-green eyes.

A shiver runs through me. Because…

Christos recognized me.

“I can tell you’re as incorrigible as ever.” I shake my head, but I’m smiling, truly just relieved that he recognized me.

“I try to be,” he purrs dangerously.

I’m feeling warm all of a sudden. I can’t believe I’m staring at him so much, but it’s like I cannot take my eyes away. He looks achingly familiar, but at the same time, so different I cannot help but stare and track the differences in his features. The way his jaw squared out even more, the way his body filled out with hard, lean muscles that shift and ripple beneath his expensive designer clothes. I cannot believe that this is a guy I knew once.

He seems to silently be taking in my changes too, his keen stare allowing me to see that he seems to approve of it all. Even the dress I’m wearing. “You changed enough for the both of us,” I blurt.

“Really. How so?” he asks.

“You grew into your nose.”

“Really?” He chuckles as if despite himself.

“Width and height too. Quite a bit,” I add.

“Anything else,” he prods, one eyebrow rising.

“You learned how to dress.”

He looks down at his black suit. “This old thing?” He grins, then shifts forward, sobering up. “What can I do for you, Bryn? Considering I’m rather surprised to see you here, I’m eager for you to satiate my curiosity.” His stare becomes keen.

“So am I. I didn’t expect to be here,” I admit, and for a moment when I look into his eyes, all I see is someone I’ve seen before. Someone who belonged in my life long ago. “You know when you had that misplaced crush on me and told me one day I’d know what it felt like to throw pebbles at someone’s window wanting them to open? I’m sort of throwing rocks here.”

“Not to sing me a love song,” he says flatly, his eyes shuttering.

“No. Well, you know that was never….I mean…” Don’t bring up your rejection of him, Bryn! “It’s for something better. Business.”

“Go on.”

“I knew that’d get you.” I smile privately. “So it’s true your love is money now.”

“She gives back what I put in. Though her ass isn’t as juicy as I like,” he says nonchalantly.

“Wow. No matter how polished you look, your mouth is still as crude as ever.”

“Thank you,” he purrs, his eyes grinning at me.

I laugh. Then I sober up and realize he’s waiting for me to speak. “I’m looking for money for my startup,” I say.

“How much.”

“One hundred thousand.”

“I don’t invest less than a million.” He twirls his whiskey in his glass, eyeing the liquid.

“Well then, I’ll ask for a million.”

He raises his brows, setting his glass down. “It’s not how much you want to ask for, it’s how much the company’s worth.” Eyebrows up, he skewers me with a cold, intimidating look.

“It’ll be worth more than a million, trust me,” I bluff.

“Good for you. Except…” he leans back with a rustle of clothes, every athletic inch of his black-clad body flowing sinuously like a feline with the move, “considering that has yet to happen and I’ll need to trust you on that, my trust needs to be earned.”

This version of Christos is even more intimidating than the old one, unfortunately.

I try to hide it, keeping my voice as level as possible. “How does one earn your trust?”

“I’d tell you if I were interested, but I’m not exactly sure that I am.” He eyes me as if debating in silence.

This guy is the only guy in the world that unnerves me in this way, and I can’t seem to slow the fast pounding of my heart in my chest as I try to remember what I came here to say.

“I have a full presentation for you. I’m not taking no for an answer.” I reach into my briefcase.

“Darling. Are you ready?”

I start at the female voice and glance at a gorgeous woman striding into the study. Christos continues looking at me as he stands and reaches for the cell phone the woman extends out.

“We’re done here,” he answers her as he pockets the phone, his gaze remaining on me.

“I’ll wait for you in the car.” She leans up and kisses his jaw, her hands proprietary on his chest, then sends me a woman-to-woman claiming look, before she swishes away, all glittering jewels and lean body.

There’s a silence as he approaches, and for a second all I can hear is the sound of a toilet flushing, taking my only opportunity with a possible investor away.

“I’ll think about it,” he says.

“Christos.”

“I said I’ll think about it,” he says from the door.

“Please do,” I say as he exits the room. I cup the sides of my mouth, “I’ll be back tomorrow. Same time?” I say jokingly.

I’m surprised when I hear footsteps returning. He pauses when our eyes meet. “I’ll make contact,” he says, raising his eyebrows meaningfully, “If I’m interested in hearing more.” He nods. “Nice to see you, Bryn.”

“Nice to see you. Christos.”

Well, that went sort of awful.
