The most powerful force in existence, but also the most ruthless. Cunning and deceptive.Man’s greatest Achilles heel. Leaving all who embrace it weak and vulnerable.
At least that’s how Dom-for-hire Max Kelley sees it, after the love of his life knocked him on his ass. A brutal blow that not only stole his breath, but decimated his ability to trust. Turning him cold and cynical. The TKO he never saw coming.
A mistake Max won’t ever make again.
Meaning no more relationships—not exactly a hardship. Just the thought of dating makes him queasy, and one of the reasons he doms for a living. To sexually engage without the poison of intimacy. The other reason? To keep his demons sated. With whips and chains, and scandalous kink. A fiery mix that always hits the spot.
That is, until a bright-eyed beauty walks into his life and refuses to leave.
Sean Matthews. College senior and flirt extraordinaire. Max’s newest—and greenest—client sub. Man, is he delicious; able to push Max’s buttons, able to make him crave the things he knows he shouldn’t. Sound the alarm, this can only mean trouble. Unfortunately, deterring Sean proves virtually impossible, and now Max finds himself at a crossroads.
Man up and kick his favorite sub to the curb… or succumb to his own caged desires.

Warning: This erotic, gay, BDSM romance contains intensely explicit sexual scenes both inside and out of the dungeon.

** Note from the author: In keeping with the promise I made to my Upending Tad devotees, I’ve included a small side story with Tad and Scott in book 2 where we delve a bit further into the developments of their relationship, and all the wonderful ways they’ve been keeping each other’s hearts pounding. So, be prepared for a few more character point of views! Tad and Scott aren’t going anywhere. They’ll be around for the long haul. XXO

Someone Else’s Summer by Rachel Bateman Review

Someone Else’s Summer

Stars: 4.5 stars
Anna’s always idolized her older sister, Storm. So when Storm dies in a tragic car accident on the night of her high school graduation, Anna is completely lost and her family is torn apart. That is, until she finds Storm’s summer bucket list and decides to honor her sister by having the best summer ever—which includes taking an epic road trip to the coast from her sleepy Iowa town. Setting out to do everything on Storm’s list along with her sisters best friend Cameron—the boy next door—who knew that Storm’s dream summer would eventually lead to Anna’s own self-discovery?

4.5 Stars

Where do I start with this review….

I’m so glad that I came across this book on Netgalley. I read the synopsis and something just pulled me to it. It isn’t one of my normal reads. But it turned out to be a great surprise for me.

This book starts off incredibly sad. Anna’s sister Storm died tragically and it took everyone by surprise. She beat cancer when she was younger she has just graduated from high school. She was getting ready to head off to college. Everyone took her death pretty hard.
But Anna… she was in a state of shock. She had a hard time dealing with Storms death.

When Anna came across Storm’s notebook. She found a bucket list. Something they use to do when they were younger. Every year the list would change according to their age, likes and dislikes.
Anna knew she had to carry out Storms list. She had to give Storm her one last summer. So she sets out with the boy next door/best friend Cameron. And together they set out for an adventure.

They both discover things about each other on this trip. They push themselves to do things they never would have done before.
While giving Storm her last summer. Anna finds herself in a way.

I absolutely loved Cameron in this book! He was so understanding. He was so patient with Anna. And I felt he was a good best friend to Storm.
Anna… I felt she was so immature at times. I also felt she was a follower. She allowed her best friend Piper to call the shots. I also felt Piper was not very supportive to Anna during her sister death. she was mean and selfish to Anna. And I wished that Anna would have set her straight in this book.
Also too… Anna would treat Cameron kind of mean. I had to stop myself from getting too upset. I had to take Anna’s age into account.
But still… it was hard. 90% into the book. Anna really got to me. I could totally understand why she would be upset. I would be too. But to totally block out Cameron the way she did was so wrong on so many levels.
He lost his best friend too. And Anna has to remember they were best friends. Storm confided in him about something she felt passionate about.

I loved the ending of this book. It felt right. I honestly wanted more. I wish there was an epilogue! I would love to see how things turned out with them.
This was a first time read for me by this author. I will definitely be check out her other books!

USA TODAY bestselling author Alexa Riley’s first full-length novel shows just what happens when a strong, possessive man finds the woman of his dreams.

I’ll never forget the way she looked, so confident and sure of herself. I watched her from a distance. She wasn’t ready for me yet. I didn’t approach her and I didn’t disturb her, but I never once took my eyes off her.

Mallory Sullivan is ready to start her new life. After graduating at the top of her class, she’s landed one of the most coveted internships in the United States. Hard work and determination have gotten her to this moment of living the life she only dreamed of while growing up in foster care.

From the start, I knew that she would be my greatest achievement, so the day I let her go, I set down a path for her. A path to me.

She never expected Oz to be the greatest culmination of those dreams. But sometimes fate determines who you fall in love with. Who makes you lose control. Who owns your soul.

And then you realize it wasn’t fate at all…

I’ve wanted to care for and protect her since the first moment I saw her. I’ve constructed everything in our lives so that at the perfect moment, I could have her, could give her the life she deserves.

The time has come.

This book was definitely a slow burn compared to the other Alexa Riley books. In those short books it was all about getting right to the point fast.
This book was a slow build up. I really liked the change!

Right from the beginning this book reminded me of Fifty Shades and the This Man series. Oz had hints of Christian Grey and Jesse Ward (more Jesse than Christian).
Ok… I was ok with Christian but Jesse Ward… I could not stand him . And as I read on… I was having a hard time with Oz’s character.

I loved how everything played out in this book up until the 48% mark. I knew it was coming. I figured it out pretty early on. But when it finally came all out. I really felt bad for Mallory. My heart just broke for her. I was having a hard time reading it. Because I couldn’t see myself forgiving the people involved. How can you forgive?! It was just so wrong! And as more secrets came out. I still couldn’t get past it all.
She’s only known Oz for a week! So I just Couldn’t wrap my head around her wishy washyness.
(And yes… I know this is an Alexa Riley book!)

Her whole life has been carefully planned out to what Oz wanted. who she could talk to, what she could do. It was kind of hard to read how Mallory wasn’t all that freaked out about it. Because of her feelings for Oz. Or even more upset with her one and only friend!

I was having a hard time getting through some of the parts in this book. Like how she was sooo mad at Oz. But when he kisses her. Her body betrays her and she just couldn’t stop herself. Ughhh!
And the whole Paige thing. That one hurts a lot. She’s really no friend to me at all.

I felt Mallory had no other choice but to give in to it all. She forgave way to fast.
The sex in this book was hot but not as dirty as the novella books they put out. But still steamy.

The ending of this book was ok. It ends in a HEA. I was satisfied with it.

I have mixed feeling about this book. Every time I read a short novella book by Alexa Riley. I alway wish it could be just a little bit longer.
Well… I got my wish. And unfortunately it wasn’t all what I was expecting. Mallory’s character is one of those characters that I run from in books! And Oz’s character really reminded me of Jesse Ward. Not as bad… but I felt his presence.

I still love Alexa Riley’s books. The short novella ones. Have my heart. But this book was hard for me. I will still read the second book in this series. Because I’m absolutely intrigued with Captain’s character! I would like to see how he breaks down Paige’s wall.

*ARC provided for an honest review*

I’ve watched her since the beginning.
It’s funny, but I don’t really remember much before her. It’s as if I could split my life into two halves. Before her and after. I remember my life with my parents, and I remember getting into college, but it’s all gray before her. Until the day I saw her, there was no color. But once my eyes landed on her for the first time, it was like when Dorothy landed in Oz and she opened the door. The world went Technicolor, and she was my very own Glinda the Good Witch.
I was twenty-two years old the first time I saw her. She was seventeen and competing in a state-level high school math competition.
Yale University asked me to represent them as a student judge, and I nearly declined. The state of Connecticut is small but houses one of the greatest Ivy League colleges in the country. One that makes becoming a standout almost impossible. I was among the top one percent in my class as a senior at Yale, with a major in statistics.
The only reason I’d accepted the invitation was to play a part. Many expected me to follow in the footsteps of my father, and I wanted them to believe that, but my end goal was a little different than anyone knew. I was on the path of revenge, but playing a part would help me on that path. Rubbing shoulders with the same men my father did, even if it left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Agreeing to judge the competition was life-changing. The bitter taste in my mouth altered that day. A sweetness took over. I wanted it. Needed it.
I’ll never forget the way she looked, so confident and sure of herself. I watched her from a distance, like you would a lioness in the wild. I didn’t approach her and I didn’t disturb her, but I never once took my eyes off her.
I found out later she was being sponsored by her high school so that she could attend the competition. She had no family and was being raised in a group foster home, so her school funded the trip. She was smart, and they wanted to see her succeed, which she did.
I saw so much in her as she competed. She knew all the answers and was absolutely sure each time. She trusted her instincts, and they didn’t let her down. There was so much potential in her just waiting to be unleashed. I wanted to sit down and have her tell me everything, anything, as long as she talked to me.
She swept the competition and won first place in her division. I was strangely proud of her.
When she walked out of the hotel ballroom after the competition was over, I let her go. It was the hardest thing I’d ever had to do. But I knew that if I went after her too soon, or too fast, she would run. Not only was she too young for me, but something about her told me she was the kind of woman who came along once in ten thousand lifetimes.
This wasn’t to be rushed. It was to be savored.
I may hate my father, but I’ve learned from his mistakes. I’m going to use those mistakes for my own advantage. He’s smart but sloppy at the same time and it’s been showing. But I know if you want something, you work hard for it, plan out all the details to make it yours.
From the beginning, I knew that she would be my greatest achievement, so the day I let her go, I set down a path for her.
A path to me.
No one knows it’s been me behind the curtain, pulling the strings. I’ve constructed everything in our lives so that at the perfect moment, I could have her.
The time has come.

About Kim Golden

I grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and spent most of my childhood summers in Smithfield, Virginia. I’m not sure where my love of words comes from, but I’ve loved books since I was a child and I’ve loved writing stories for as long as I can remember.

My parents wanted me to do something practical–be an engineer, a doctor, a lawyer, an accountant. But I always dreamed of doing something completely different. I knew I wanted to be a writer, even if it took a bit of time for me to get to that point.

It led me to spend more time writing stories than studying physics and chemistry in high school. It’s what led me study literature and then work on an MFA in Creative Writing at Virginia Commonwealth University. And when I finished my master’s degree, love led me away from the US and brought me to Sweden.

So what do I write? I write about relationships, about love. I often write about interracial relationships. I like reading stories about people who are different, who see past the differences and fall in love. And those are the stories I also enjoy writing. I write stories for people who know that love comes in many colors.
