You know the old adage “if you love something, set it free?”
It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
The dumbest thing I’ve ever done.
I loved her. I lost her. Hell, I let her go. And then spent five miserable years without her.
To cope with the loss, I put pen to paper and wrote her a love story, knowing when she was ready she’d hear the words I couldn’t say all those years ago.
Turned out, not only would she hear them, but when Hollywood came calling, I made sure she got the lead role. After all, no one else could portray the character whom she’d inspired.
Now she’s within arms’ reach and finally, she’ll know the truth in my heart.
Because that other cliché, “Actions speak louder than words?”
I’m going to prove it.
My words may have brought Ava Banks back into my life; I have to be enough to make her stay.
So… let me just put this out there. I had no clue this book was a spin-off. It did not say anything when I signed up for it. (I doubled checked.) It just said it was the first in a series.
As I was reading it. I felt I was slightly missing something. Especially the whole Jeremy and Sierra thing. Had no clue who those people were before this book. I’ve only read 2 book by this author and it was the Clandestine Affairs books.
And yes… I do have the Explosive books 1-5. I just haven’t gotten around to reading them yet. I like to read books in order. Including spin-offs. I just like to know the history of who’s who. And how everything came about. So I was slightly disappointed when I found out about the spin off part.
Because…. I felt this book snuck by all by check points. I took it at face value. I didn’t look it up on Goodreads. Which is rare for me! Because I look up pretty much everything! But since I was feeling so off about this book I finally looked it up on Goodreads.
This book wasn’t what I was expecting. I thought it would be a little on the heavy side and it wasn’t. It was light and super sweet. This book didn’t keep you guessing much. As soon as Ava come back home… everything pretty much went back to how it use to be with Tucker. Maybe even a little over the top with the love and romance. Down to waiting for each other in the bedroom department.
Tucker had to go through something pretty bad so close to his high school graduation. And making some pretty big decisions that would change the course of his life. And basically ending what was supposed to be a life long relationship with his girlfriend Ava.
He felt he had a duty to stay back home and Ava couldn’t. She had a dream and that dream couldn’t happen if she had stayed home.
Now… 5 years later… they are both still feeling the emptiness and sadness of that fateful day they broke up.
Overall this was an ok read. A little overly sweet. But still a nice read. I wish maybe there was a little more drama to the storyline. It just felt like it was missing something for me. And it also got me thinking about reading the Explosive series. I would like to read everyone’s back story.
