What a book for Tillie Cole to introduce into the YA world. I’ll be honest and say that YA isn’t really my thing though one other author by the name of Lori L. Otto and her Olivia series did get me hooked at one point in time and that was pretty much my last bout with YA. Until, A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole which has just wormed itself into the deepest recesses of my heart. The author promised a tear jerker YA romance and boy did she make good on that promise. I don’t think there was ever a time while reading this book that my heart didn’t feel like it would completely shatter at any given moment. Tears were both a continuous friend and foe. Tears that would betray me reading at night in bed or at the lunch room during work hours. It was tiresome yet it was so revitalizing at the same time. Cathartic overload.
Rune and Poppy’s story begins at a young age of five and I have to tell you, these two at the age of five knew more about love than many of us do at the age of 30. Their unfaltering connection could only exist between soul mates and that’s what they truly were for one another. Two halves that made one another whole. Ugh. So much of their story held something magical, I was totally lost in the sweet words they’d exchanged with one another and I melted at each loving touch shared between Rune and Poppy. They were an exquisite reminder of what true love looked and felt like. My own heart burst with sunshine and moonbeams.
A Thousand Boy Kisses is filled with so much love and hope and I am so utterly inspired by this book. Inspired by Poppy’s inherent optimism and her energy for life. Inspired by Rune’s strength and his adoration for Poppy. This book is a true testament of unconditional, never ending love. I’m completely overwhelmed with the vast array of emotions that Tillie Cole was able to reap out of me… So much, too much that my heart most definitely burst.
I recommend this book to all of you, even to those of you who like me, aren’t quite drawn into the YA genre. Trust me when I say that this will be the breath of fresh air you need. Get out of your comfort zone and take a chance on Tillie Cole’s beautiful story about a boy and a girl lucky enough to have found their soul mate at such a young age in this crazy, big world. Poppy and Rune will make you believe that love is enough. That the purest of loves holds life’s very meaning and that in the very end, love is everything we could need in this life and beyond.
