BLOG TOUR & BOOK REVIEW: The Lie by Karina Halle

Release Date: February 15, 2016

Their love led to a lie.

Their truth led to the end.

Scottish enigma Brigs McGregor is crawling out from the ashes. After losing his wife and son in a car accident – and, subsequently, his job – he’s finally moving forward with his life, securing a prestigious teaching position at the University of London and starting a new chapter in the city. Slowly, but surely, he’s pushing past the guilt and putting his tragic past behind him.

Until he sees her.

Natasha Trudeau once loved a man so much she thought she’d die without him. But their love was wrong, doomed from the start, and when their world crashed around them, Natasha was nearly buried in the rubble. It took years of moving on to forget him, and now that she’s in London, she’s ready to start over again.

Until she sees him.

Because some loves are too dangerous to ever rekindle.

And some loves are too powerful to ignore.

Can you ever have a second chance at a love that ruined you?

The Lie is a second-chance romance with a dark, forbidden twist.

The Lie. Not only was it the most honest, gut wrenching, and beautiful of the series but also most favorite of all. Bravo Karina Halle for elevating this already addictive series with Brigs and Natasha’s story. I absolutely loved everything about this book. She left me breathless, unable to move past the intensity of Brigs’ and Natasha’s feelings for one another. This was simply a book that had it all. From the book’s lyrical prose to scenes that play out like a film, the author draws in her readers from the get go. A romantic tragedy worth the emotional journey, with a guarantee that Karina Halle will not let you down one bit. Their love that wasn’t supposed to be but alas a love that only comes once in a lifetime. An innocent connection that would turn into something transcendent, which would brutally and unfairly change lives in the most crippling of ways.

I was in a constant state of motion as I read through the entirety of The Lie. There was never a moment when my heart was calm; always manically beating whether it be from the constant state of fear of what else may come of Brigs and Natasha or from the blinding heat of passion between them. And when I say blinding heat I mean…Off the Richter scale! The rawness didn’t stop with their emotional need for one another. The desperation that clawed between them in the physical aspect was crazy good. Hottie Tottie scenes that have to be some of the very best I’ve ever read because it wasn’t simply limbs and tongues and teeth… They became an extension of one another during these moments. It was an erotic dance between two people who couldn’t live without the other. The intensity so profound, I couldn’t breathe. I was just stuck at those moments, totally embroiled in all things Brigs and Natasha. Oh goodness, it was amazing.

I know that the author warred with herself regarding this release because of the infidelity aspect. Let me tell you, the way in which she broached this topic couldn’t have been done better than the way it was in this book. She took something completely real—I mean, let’s put down the pitch forks. Unhappy, loveless marriages exist and to be able to recognize you’re in one and to actually be bold and brave enough to break out of such a life, to me, is commendable. To venture out to find love again is a wonderful thing. And to find your one true love at it? Well, if that’s not what this life is all about, then I don’t know what is. Natasha and Brigs are such strong characters. Ones you can easily love and forgive. The kind you root for and hope that they find the redemption they righteously deserve amidst the tragedy that has been brought down on them. I thought that they were the perfect pair for this tale and I don’t think any other but them could have brought this story to the level it was delivered.

The Lie was everything I expected and more. Karina Halle outdid herself with this and she had nothing to fear because Brigs and Natasha brought out a story worth telling. This book is definitely bookshelf worthy and a must, must read.
